I didn't say panic buy. I said learn from your observations and prepare yourself next time. Panics happened in 1994, 2000, 2008, and now. I remember buying 500 rounds bulk packs of 22lr for $7.99 and I still have and shoot that ammunition. It's not at all stupid to make an informed decision and have what you need when you need it with a price that isn't crazy.

I'm not concerned with having stashes of ammo or anything. I want a box to go shoot for fun and can't buy it because of people scooping it up to stash

Well, unfortunately the same things have happened before. I am just suggesting buying enough so you can shoot without care of having no replacement.
In the next 6 - 12 months the supply will catch up. Buy 5 or 6 thousand rounds of 22, which shouldn't be to expensive and when the next panic come, which it will, you'll be set to plink for a while.

Exactly, a few years ago $20 at Wally World would get you 1100 rounds of bulk 22lr . Throw it in the cart next to the bread and beer.

My mental health has suffered too from lack of shooting. I have more free time this senester than ever and I can't make use of it. Sucks...

It's largely not being panic bought, in my opinion. I think some of it is being flipped.
I stopped in one of the big box stores this weekend and the clerk said he got 3 buckets of Remington 22LR, 1400 rounds. Said 25 guys were at the door when it was unlocked that morning, and 22 of them went away mad.
