My older brother bought a Contender 39fa powered by quad Yamaha F350s and I plan on selling my 26’ Key West Billistic since his offshore boat is much more superior.

Id like to stay under $80K and want a bay boat no longer than 24’ at the most.

Which bay boat would you guys recommend? I’m 36 and I’m hoping this will be the last boat I buy so I don’t mind paying that much for a well made bay boat that can last me a longtime.

Thoughts?

TIA

Pathfinder 2600 HPS or 2200 TRS.
Edit to add, I know you said 24 feet at the most, but the 2600 HPS does things inshore and near shore better than many 24 foot boats.

Saw two new Blue Waves that were around 26'-28', single motors. Looked real good as far as a bay boat that would be a nice dry ride in a bay chop. Would be able to handle some off shore fishing too!

Problem, boats that big do limit fishing spots in shore in skinny water. Saying that, one can't bet a express bay boat 24' and under.

OP, how many people do you go fishing with? If 3 or less, I would stay under 24' which is more then enough space. More people, then look at longer boats. Also, don't waste your money on a Tee top if you are a true fisherman. That is just wasted space. Now it you have kids, a Bimini top will be like turning on the ac for them on long days of fishing.

I have a Key West 230BR and it fits me perfectly. A touch more dead rise than most of the other popular bay boats but that’s what I wanted.

I’d look at a Blackjack 256

This one on my list. Price is $93K which is a little more than I was intending to spend on a bay boat but I’m going to do more research and if I fall in love with it, I may pull the trigger

That would be my choice.

I like the blazer 2400 as well. It's a rolled gunnel boat with an acre of floor space.

Other good ones to pass your eyes over are parker, sea hunt, bluewave, frontier.

At your price point you may want to call gaudet's, Scully, and hanko's and price a custom aluminum rig. That's a true 100% no bullshite lifetime hull.

Kemo, I know you’re really plugged in and know boats well. How hard do you thinK it will be to sell my Key West 261CC Billistic? I have 2 Yamaha F250s pushing it. 179 hours on both engines. Boat still looks brand new. When I’m not fishing it stays in a covered building.

On THT it should move quick but you’re fast approaching the end of many boaters season. List ASAP with clean boat and quality pics.
I know of an 07 21’ Kenner coming up for $25k, boat is very clean and shop kept.

That 24’ Young is a good looking boat and also the price I’m lookin for. 13” draft not bad at all. I’ll be reaching out Young tomorrow and BlackJack as well. I’m almost certain I want that 224 BJ or the 24’ Young. I have never fished in a Young so I’m going to do some research.

ETA: I misread the price of the 24’ Young. The hull its self is almost $70K so that’s probably a $125K boat when it’s all said and done. I might as well look at a Yellowfin too

What is most important to you for this bay boat?

Better ride in rough water?
Speed/fuel economy?
Skinny water capability?

Will you be fishing on the outside and running to the rigs in good days or will you be more of an inside the marsh type fisherman?

Buddy just picked up an Islamorada Morada 24 with a 350 verado. The boat is mean. I’d look into them if I had that kind of coin.

Better ride in rough water. We fish out of Grand Isle and now that my brother has a nicer offshore rig and I’m selling mine, the boat I use will mostly be for fishing along the surf, behind the island and into some of the shallower lakes. I run to Timbalier a lot and fish up and down the surf along Fourchon. Oh and definitely speed.
