re: Gunite vs Fiberglass Pool

Posted by rustyjohnson on 8/7/26 at 5:55 pm to
I wouldn’t be afraid of a gunite pool if the plaster is in good shape. I bought a house with a gunite pool after only taking care of vinyl liner pools and didn’t see a big change. I did have it replastered and it was way cheaper and faster than I thought, but it was already chipping when I bought the house.

So if it’s a house you may be in long term, you have the option to change the color when it’s time for a refinish. Mine was 22 years old before we refinished and now it’s brand new again.

If the shoe fills the gap, can you use a longer finish nail and hit the sill? Just need to lay your nailer more parallel to the floor to miss the slab.
I DIY’d my bathroom and did Pex B due to the cost of the expansion tool. Unless you have access to one, it’s just not feasible.

I was advised not to use the “pinch rings” that are more like a hose clamp but the actual copper crimp rings.

I would splurge on the crimps that have the plastic insert that keeps it snug to the pex while you crimp it.
As others have said, it’s the regulator, but might not need to be replaced. They have a safety feature built in. Google Weber regulator reset and try that before replacing.

If I don’t light mine in the right sequence it does this.
Yamin has heart and cares so let’s force him to transfer like Larson
NY Garcia replastered my pool and I was very pleased. I didn’t touch my waterline tile, so I’m not sure if they do that work.

You may know this but there’s a very detailed 28 day process after plaster that you’ll need to follow if you go that route.
So you’d sheath the entire interior of your house? Have to cut out all the receptacles and extend them the thickness of the ply? I would not do that. I’d put 3/4” ply in pocket door frames for toilet paper holders and blocking for TVs and call it a day.

Yes. Pay attention to how the pump comes apart and make sure it turns freely once all back together. You should be able to turn the motor shaft from the back and the pump should be smooth.
Yes, fairly straightforward. Some disassembly of the pump will be necessary to get the motor detached but it’s not bad. Usually just have to deal with minor corrosion/stuck bolts.
I realize you specifically asked about freeze protection, but I’ve done a few bearing replacements. What I’ve experienced lately is if the pool is saltwater, the pump seal gets corroded and saltwater makes its way to the motor, destroying the bearing. Won’t take long for the motor to get beyond repair once saltwater is in it.

If that’s your situation, I’ve been ordering motor bearings & seals from Inyo pools and they sell pump seals intended for saltwater.
I gave up on CCA doing more than sinking concrete and hosting banquets.
I’d take a regular Dramamine the night before and a non-drowsy that morning. That’s my routine and it’s undefeated. I think once the thought creeps in your head, you’re screwed.
I doubt it’s a breaker. If it’s multiple parts of your house, it’s likely just low service voltage. The weather has warmed this week so not unexpectedly, utility voltage can drop.

If you have a good meter and are comfortable using it, you can measure the voltage on each breaker to neutral. Also make sure all neutrals are tight.

If it’s brief, it may also correspond to your A/C or other large load kicking on.

Impact driver to compliment your drill.
I installed a SWG 3 years ago and it has been great. But I recommend upgrading your pump seal to extreme duty as the saltwater will eat it up and get into your motor bearings.

I have same boat with 250 Yamaha & 6” jack plate. I get a bit more out of mine, but not too much. 58-59 with a light load but haven’t had blowout issues. Do you have 25” shaft? I do not know what prop I have but will check.

I’d start with the easiest…make sure it’s not your truck or a dirty plug first.

If that’s good, I’d check voltage at the light to see if the light failed internally or if you have a bad connection somewhere dropping your voltage. With LEDs, they need a certain threshold voltage to turn on, unlike incandescent which would just be dim. Low voltage = bad connection somewhere.

Are you sure it’s 50V and not your meter reading 50mV?

If it is 50V, make sure one leg of your entire panel didn’t drop voltage.
Doing a bathroom renovation and planning to replace the ceramic tile with marble. Seeing all the rage with uncoupling membranes but unclear on if it’s needed as I’ve pulled up a ton of ceramic over the years and it’s always set directly on the slab.

Needed or overkill? The downside I foresee is adding marginal height where it will meet the existing floor at the door.

LP Smartside Trim Hard To Find?

Posted by rustyjohnson on 9/7/23 at 10:46 am
Anyone know why LP smartside trim is hard to find in Louisiana? I’ve searched HD/Lowe’s and local lumber yards. Nada. Move outside the state and it appears to be available.

I used the siding on my shed and wanted to use the trim but now I may need an alternative or a trip to Mississippi.
