Thanks for possting. I have also written her and have also talked with her. Me and my family have hunted Madion Parish all our life and have had many run-ins with bears. I would bet my house the Feds will never allow a bear to be shot on the refuge. Hope I am wrong.

Thanks for that post. I have met Kelly at the Refuge HQ and she is a great ambassadore for the Refuge.
I hunt on two tracts either adjacent to or surrounded by the Refuge. It's pretty awesome to me to see these bears wandering around while hunting, especially going to a stand in the dark with a bow in hand, unnocked in the dark.
I have seen many bears in the Delhi area and all i have seen there and in the Refuge are pretty timid, but I have yet to have the "pleasure" of getting near a sow and cubs.
There is a Golf tournament going on at Black Bear right now and yesterday morning a rather large bear strolled across the course well within site of the restaurant.
I have mixed feelings about shooting one, but the predatory instinct would probably kick in should the season come about.

Looks like it may be a couple of years, but I will soon have a black bear skin rug in my man cave.

Late to the game. I had a chance to hunt them years ago in NC. Hell, I was 16 at the time when I bagged my first/last. Would I do it again? Just like turkey hunting. After the first kill, it isn't fun anymore, but love to watch them.

I know folks would prefer to carry a gun, but there is a lot of evidence that the bear spray is far more effective than those that carry guns from data out west. We went to a "bear attack" training and even a retired police officer didn't have enough time to pull his gun when a bear attacked, however, the bear spray can be sprayed at long distances and you don't have to worry about missing.

I don't follow. So bear spray allows for a faster draw than a firearm? No chance in missing?

I really didn't. You have to assume she gets some much less educated emails, probably from some of your kin folk

I don't have a burning desire to shoot one or anything, but would like to eradicate the ones that come around my campyard

That part boggled my mind.. So a cop couldn't pull his firearm in time, but im supposed to be able to pull my "bear spray" in time? And the bear spray has a longer range than my .45? hmmm.

46 years wandering around in the woods, including Tensas, BCNWR, Lac Ophelia NWR and Davis Island, all supposedly full of bears and still have not seen one. I have zero desire to kill one either.

As to danger, find a story about a black bear attack in LA. None exist. It's not like we're dealing with grizzlies.

You have either not been in Northeast La in 5 years or you are a terrible hunter. And to each his own on the desire to kill them, hell some people hunt elephants.

Ok, but there have many documented attacks on people by black bears. Not to mention, there are several other reasons for opening a season of some sort, regardless of safety purposes.

Aww knighting for your little buddy? I think its funny that both of you are in every bear thread, claiming that the elusive bear sighting is a rare event and of all of your hunting wisdom, youve never encountered one. Im sorry that you dont have the same hunting experience as I do.

There is a good monay bears on our place in lottie LA. The LDWLF does alot of studies on them throughout the year and collects data. We see them all the time.

It's stressed heavily the difference between blakc bears and hogs. That would be a bad mistake

Wouldn't mind a rug.

I just want them to be less sacred with the state. If I shoot one that's snooping around the bottom of my tree, I don't wanna go to jail. Make me pay $300 or something.

Mung an Alx would you...

Why would you ever want to kill such an animal.

That said, I would be making love on my blackbearskin rug in front of my fireplace.
I would also have a blackbearskin coat to wear to Ole Piss games.
