Somebody brought some bear meat to a Shawneetown Shootout a couple of years ago. I tasted it, and did not care for it. Greasy, like coon.

Never hunted bear, only hunt public land or private land where bait isn't allowed. Perhaps that's why I've never seen one. I sure spend a helluva lot of time hiking/scouting/biking/hunting to have never encountered a bear if they were as common as you claim.

All the TV bear hunts put out a bunch of donuts or other bait, which doesn't seem sporting. I am pretty certain given the resources that LDWF spends introducing them that they are rare, and sighting are exaggerated. shite, there are several posters on here that swear they've seen black panthers. People make shite up on the internet. Shocking, I know.

Trying to ease the tension in here. I was hoping ole Chalice would catch a mental image of a husky guy sweating while rocking back and forth in the Iranian jackhammer.

Tension breaker

Im telling you from firsthand experience that I have seen 2 sets of sows with 2 cubs and a total of 6 different bears in a weekend. And not just one isolated weekend either. I dont hunt over bait, but one of my camps sits squarely on a 300 acre field, usually planted in corn. That may be the reason for more sightings, but most anyone that lives and hunts in the area regularly is repeating the same thing im saying.

Remember, cottonmouths are very rare and almost always just misidentified water snakes.

His host sees them on the regular. He's just pissed that he hasn't seen one yet. of course, he chose to go to kalifornia last year instead of Davis Island. Frikin' commie.

I am all for controlling their population. Something has to be done....I am a hunter but not a hard core deer hunter.

My time deer hunting is with my two boys and letting them take does before the rut or management bucks...from big comfy, heated box stands.

Bears drove me out of my lease in Union Parish. Now they are in my new lease in NCLA...although not to the extent of what Union had.

All that said, I have no desire to kill one. Not sure what it is because I'll drop a deer, yote, pig, doves, ducks, squirrels, etc. with no hesitation. I just could not pull the trigger on a bear if it was not threatening me.
