I used to have a picture of a LA license from earlier in the 30’s. It had a season for cormorants with about 7 different words for them. One of them was pretty unbelievable.

I remember hunting on our land for an entire season when I was 8 or 9 and never even seeing a deer the entire season
I had a couple of those too. My dad would sit me in "The best spot" and I wouldn't see a deer. I'd hear him shoot and kill one.

We didn't bait, spread deer piss around, or have a stand.

ETA: I called my mom's dad "Grandaddy". My dad's father died when my dad was in high school. I remember other kids talking about their Me Maw's & Paw Paw's. When my Arkansas born & raised dad talks about his dad, he calls him Papa. That's all I've got on grandparents pet names.

Chipmunk Season....first you make a roux..

And no limit on rabbits and they could be sold during the open season.

Pretty short duck season also...and ended early for being as far south as Louisiana is. Probably typical of the times and the area but imagine not having a split and ending the season before New Years. Liberal bag limit though. Some folks of the opinion that late seasons in the deep south are detrimental to populations. The season certainly ended early in 1939.

A bit of history first. Grandparents have 85 acres. They along with my two aunts (blood) and uncle ( not blood). One aunt has her own filed, plot and feeder . No one but her can hunt. That's fine by be, it's 50yd from there house.
Me my pow pow 85 years old and uncle hunt the rest. All stands are open but we have our own we maintain and give each other first choice of it.

Now the problem. I am the only bow hunter. I only hunt my stand. Now uncle goes starts checking my camera. See I have deer coming 6 nice bucks,a few does, and some small bucks. Then he goes moves my feeder, camera , and say I'll put it on my stand so we all can hut it. WTF! So Saturday i went up there and pow pow says your stand got moved too. But I plowed you a plot there! Then says you going to put your stuff back huh? Yes I am! So moved all my stuff back and now waiting for the reaction of the uncle! Uncle says corn plots cameras are to hight dollar! But take mine lol.

Pow pow says he's in a tuff spot and grandmother says do
what I want. How do I keep the peace?

I read the same, not sure where. But thought it said something about the survey being done in two specific regions. Miss delta & Atch spillway, metioning the population is higher with the bears outside of that. Rings a bell but not 100% sure

I thought that was a paw-paw and a maw-maw.

"Pow-pow" seems more like the sound a kid makes when he's playing with a toy gun...
