If you enjoy dispersed camping, consider joining/supporting the BlueRibbon Coalition as they fight to keep dispersed camping open to all.

Here is a link to their current fight near MOAB.

BRC

The BRC fights to keep trails open for all users, esp motorized including 4x4s, OHV, snowmobiles even PWCs.

It's an uphill battle against big-Enviro with their corporate and Foundation donors.

LDWF already f*cked this up by charging people to camp on public lands

LDWF never allowed dispersal camping, nor do they have any control over Lands in LA where it is currently allowed, like Kisatchie.

While I take your point, public lands should be open to the public to use, if you have ever spent much time on BLM and Bureau of Reclamation lands in the western US you can certainly understand why there may be some movement to limit the use...folks are nasty idiots who are convinced those lands are a good place to dump their trash, leave junk cars, live for months on end in dilapidated RVs etc. If people would treat those lands like the natural treasure they are instead of a landfill and free RV park there would be less regulation. It is frustrating to find more and more of our property off limits to us but the people who use those lands largely do not appreciate them and treat them like crap. The only thing that keeps them remotely pristine is their remote nature...the closer to town, the worse they are treated.

I think this is all pertaining to an area around Moab that is getting loved to death by off readers. It might need some restrictions to keep from ruining it.

Bless your heart…

This would also serve to ruin a lot of big game hunting in the west. Our camps (and almost all others) would fall under the definition of dispersed camping every elk season.

This. I don't read this as an attack on all dispersed camping or the concept itself. Moving high use areas from LNT/"just spread out wherever" to concentrated impact is a well established land management practice, not just within the government.

This particular instance seems to be the off-road and "overland" dorks deciding this is where they all need to go to get Instagram pictures of their super cool awnings and roof top tents and creating enough damage in the process that the land manager felt the need to try to calm things down.

social media fricks up everything good outdoors.

read the damn link, not just the title of the thread. You're not elk hunting in the 120,037-acre portion of the Labyrinth Rims/Gemini Bridges SRMA affected by this proposal. If you are, you are sure as shite not killing anything.

here is a direct link to the BLM report, with proposed actions and response to comments so you can read past the headline.
