What can you legally do to protect yourself.

With the craziness presently occurring in the country, I thought this would be helpful.

I remember a while back Clyde Tipton had an incident at a sack-o-suds and posted about it. There was much debate re what is legal/not legal, house doctrine etc.

The linked YT video by Legally Armed America, who resides in Lake Charles will answer questions you might have re the law in Louisiana. I would assume that most of the states in the Deep South have similar laws. I would encourage those that don’t live in Louisiana to research the laws in your state. I live in Florida and will do the same so I am damn sure what I can legally do to protect myself.

Stay safe & hope you all have a great 4th of July.

You have the legal right to blow their fricking head off. You will however go to prison for something. Sad.

Perhaps. As Chris Rockso eloquently stated in his video, “How not to get your arse kicked by the police”, don’t have an angry woman in your car. “He got weed, he got weed!!” If you shoot someone and have weed in your vehicle you will do the perp walk.

My only experience was with a road rage guy. He blocked me in when I pulled off hwy for gas. He was standing behind my truck screaming at me while holding a knife. I yelled come get some pussy. He opened my door and there I was sitting with my gun. He walked back to his truck and left. I told cops exactly how it happened and they said I handled it fine. I left out the "come get some" frick that guy. He was nuts

Wife and I just got back from seeing the in-laws in Texas.

Only time I felt compelled to bring an AR on my trip for protection.

Told her if we got caught in the middle of any of this ridiculousness we would be fine as long as they didn't break any windows with a club, axe or other weapon of sorts and attempt entry into the vehicle.

She asked what she should do if that happened. I said take the dog and get down in the floorboard and cover up with the blanket. She looked confused and I told her that I just didn't want her or Fido to get burned from the hot 5.56 shell casings that would be flying at that point in time.

Castle doctrine in your vehicle. If you feel your life or the life of those under your protection are in danger from a credible threat you have the right to respond in any manner necessary to stop the threat.

Depends on where you live. In Florida your car is an extension of your home, and you can assume that if they're in danger of getting in/breaking a window that they mean you harm. Now if they're just slapping the hood or kicking your doors, while you SHOULD be able to shoot them, legally that's getting into murkier territory.

#1 option is to drive away, through people if necessary. "I was afraid for my life". But if you're stuck, say there's a car right in front of you, and some clown is getting up in your broken window, blast away. Say hello to tinnitus for probably ever, but it beats getting the Reginald Denny treatment.

Again, that's for Florida. Your state may vary.

In case anyone in Louisiana wants a link to coded law on self defense you’ll want to review LA R.S. 14:19 and on.

Unless you and the significant other want a good case of tinitus, frick the hot rounds and put in a set of ear plugs before you decide to shoot from inside a car.

I guess that is unless you have a can on that AR.

This only applies if you are an innocent victim. If you started the confrontation, or helped instigate the confrontation, it is probable that you will lose your claim of innocence.

And, if you claim you were "reasonably in fear of losing your life, or suffering great bodily harm," be prepared to articulate/describe how the attacker had the ability, the opportunity the intent to cause death or great bodily harm, and be ready to describe why you felt the threat was imminent.

Also, as the video mentioned, your response has to be proportional. Shooting a small dude (or a small dudette) who was bashing his/her fist into the window of your car may be viewed as excessive force. It would be very different if he was smashing your window with metal pipe or a softball bat.

If you lose on your claim of innocence, imminence, reasonableness, or proportionality - you stand to lose on your claim of self defense.

How about if I backed up real fast when that jerk walked up on the roof of my car? I wasn't trying to kill him, just cripple him up a little.

FWIW yes, but ear plugs would still be necessary for her n Fido anyhow.

Not so much for me as I have severe tinnitus anyway from my Air Force days LOL

Cracks me up in the movies or television where people pop off a full mag of .45 inside a car, then turn and talk to the passenger 2 minutes later. You aren't hearing anything but EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE at that point.
