Good advice and if you can avoid the rubber boots. When its really cold or when i ice fish, i wear boots w a removable insulated liner and good quality merino wool socks (smartwool, wigwam, etc). If i will sit for a long period add a chemical hand warmer into the toes.

I have many pairs of synthetic and merino socks. My favorite combo is the Realtree polypropylene liner sock with farm to feet cedar falls socks.

First pair I ever bought I thought there was no way they would be warm because they are not very thick. But they are woven very tight. I also never thought I would think 25-30$ is a good deal for a pair of socks .
I now have 5-6 pairs or various weights and heights.

What type of boot are y’all wearing that aren’t insulated?

Hundreds of 5 star ratings on a number of forums and gear reviews.

As far as I can see, all they make are socks.

Figured worth a try.

I’ll second this. I used smart wool sock forever but my feet always got cold. Bought some Darn Tough crew socks for skiing this year that I ended up using for hunting and I’ll never buy another brand of merino sock. Hunted this front and my feet never got cold. I don’t know what the deal is but they work good!

I have a pair of insulated rubber boots (800 gram Thinsulate), but rarely need them as it's rarely wet where I hunt. I used to wear a thin polypro inner sock w/ wool outer sock, but I don't do that anymore. Now I favor some ski boot socks I bought from Amazon, something like 2 pair for $25. They're tight so they stay up all day. I HAST the feel of a leather root rubbing against naked skin. I've wondered the fact that they're also a compression sock helps w/ the warmth. If temps above 40 deg I wear a pair of uninsulated Red Wing Wellington boot or Bass Pro uninsulated short rubber boot.. If the temp is <40 deg, I wear a new pair of Ariat's. After a bout of sciatica during the '22 deer season I found I prefer pull on boots instead of lace up boots. Unfortunately, all my pull on boots were uninsulated. It took nearly a year, but I finally found a pair of Ariat pull on inulated (400 grams Thinsulate) boots on Amazon. I wore them in 25 deg temp w/ ski socks at the end of this year's deer season and really liked them.

And yes, keeping your core temp warm is really important. I like boot blankets, especially for young kids, but got tired of carrying extra stuff when they were just for me.

I switched to alpaca this season. I hunt out of a saddle or from a chair on the ground, so don't have any protection from the wind or a heater available like you would in a box stand.

So far, they seem to do a better job than my merino wool socks. My feet run cold, and I can get to lower temps before I need to even consider using my heated socks (can often just throw in some hand warmers instead).

Usually schnees beartooth when it's ultra cold. I do just fine in regular uninsulated lacrosse knee boots or hip boots also though.

I only own one pair of insulated boots, some cabelas brand lace up hiking boots. I dont even bring them when I go to Colorado. Insulated boots and fancy socks is barking up the wrong tree. You need better circulation and better core temp management.

Tip here….snow ski gear

Silk sock liners and a basic pair of thick socks, could be wool, will keep your feet cold even in Lagrange.

I also use the silk long johns and they work better for me than cold gear or any of that crap.

Honestly that probably is my issue, which I thought about also. I never had a pair of insulated boots other than rubber ones.
If you buy insulated boots you get ehat you pay for. There are different “grams” when it comes to insulation.

I wear Salomon Quest hiking boots. Uninsulated. My feet get cold below 35… just like they do wearing my 800g Danners.

I use a thin pair of ankle high and a regular pair over them. Don't use the deodorant but may try that next year. Lume has an all body for men. I do put athletes foot powder in the thin sock and the regular sock as well as a good amount in the boots. It works better than any of the 50 different socks I've tried. Thicker socks in rubber boots are not better for me.
