Howa hogue, Bergara b14, and Weatherby vanguard

Can I go wrong with either one? I’ve got the itch to add a new toy to the cabinet and have settled on these 3 (I think…). I like the price points of the hogue and vanguard, but not opposed to the Bergara of it is far superior.

The Howa/Vanguard action is a great piece of machinery. I haven't used the Bergara. Can't see any of these being better than the other.

Didn't we just do this a week or 2 ago?

Did we? I searched and couldn’t find anything comparing the 3.

I only have personal experience with the Howa and my
experience is good
The Japanese workers who make them are excellent craftsmen with a fine attention to detail.

Went thru the process last year. Bergara had the best trigger, action and barrel of the bunch. Other two are a little cheaper but I felt the quality of the bergara was so far superior that it was worth the extra.
It’s priced closer to a budget rifle but built closer to a high end rifle.

Agree with this summary 100%. I came to these conclusions and couldn’t be happier with my Bergara.
Also of note is that’s it is compatible with Rem700 aftermarket items if you’re into customizing it.

I've never handled a Bergara, but it seems to be well respected on the OB. I've never owned a Vanguard, either. OTOH, many years ago I owned a Smith & Wesson model 1500 in 30-06. It shot <1" groups at 100 yards. I sold it when I started handgun hunting. The S&W was made by Howa. In fact, Howa has made a number of bolt action rifles that've been relabeled by other gun companies, including S&W and Mossberg. I believe Howa also makes the Vanguard. I've also built a 20 VarTarg handgun, installing a McGowen barrel on the Howa Mini-Action. It routinely shoots 3 shot groups of 1/2# or less at 100 yards.I don't think you'll go wrong w/ any of the guns. The Howa is described as a 2 stage trigger, but it feels better than a typical 2 stage trigger to me. The first stage is a little take up w/ little pressure. The second stage nicely. Mine arrived w/ a 3.5#, gradually dropping to 3#. The trigger can be adjusted by removing a blob of glue covering a screw and adjusting the screw. The Hogue looks like a really nice gun. I'd suggest you look at and handle alll 3 guns. Which one's safety do you prefer? Which he's magazine feels most natural? Which one points the best. Do you prefer the butt pad on one vs the others? You get the idea. Keep us updated w/ your decision.

Sell some guns and go the next step above. You need two deer rifles. One needs to be top quality.

Picked up a Bergara barreled action from Brownells when they had them. Showed it to a gunsmith buddy and he was practically begging me to sell it to him. You can't beat compatibility with Rem 700 aftermarket parts. If you buy a complete rifle, you'll never need to upgrade anything anyway. I just wish they offered their premier series with a wood stock like the Sako 85 Classic.
For Howa-Vanguard - I would get the Vanguard everyday if I wanted Weatherby specific calibers. Their Accuguard is one nice machine - will probably be my next purchase. But if going with a mainstream caliber and it doesn't have to be a "Weatherby", Howa is a great rifle for the price.
