I hunt family land so no dues, but it is in MS so it breaks down like this:
Paying a guy to do our plots (cheaper than us driving up to do it) $425 my share
License $400
Fuel $600-800 for the season
Food $300-400
Misc Equipment $500 or so.
This doesn't include any big purchases like guns, stands, etc. I have no idea what I spend on my other outdoor activities.

How many people are thinking about posting but wondering if their wife lurks...

the only correct answer is too much for my budget, and not enough to make me happy.

Right around here... just dropped $300 on some new rods, nothing wrong with my old ones, just wanted new ones.

Fishing sounds expensive. I think I'll keep my fishing outings to sitting on the pier with a hundred crickets and tearing up some bream.

Before I got sick and was offshore fishing all the time, I was spending about $1200 a weekend doing that twice a month. Marsh fishing, around 2k a year. Hunting, maybe 1k a year.
Now, maybe 5k a year for everything.

Probably 1500.00 - 2000.00, but I fill my freezer every year which cuts the cost of groceries dramatically.

I hunt my own timberland, don't use a 4 wheeler and paid cash for the boat years ago.
The biggest expenses are the Missippi non-resident license ($400+), fuel for the truck and boat, and live shrimp, and occasionaly replacing broken rods/stands etc. Probably $1000-1500/year.
If I only fished out of a yak or under the dock-lights and only hunted hogs and rabbits in the marsh next door, I could keep the freezer full for $100.

hunting lease, fishing camp lease, and MS license: $7600. That is before I do anything!!!! Holy smokes I need a second job.

Don't really know. I guess much of my expense would be fuel (for the boat) and travel. I have almost all the gear I need. I'm a pretty frugal bastard and don't spend what I don't need to spend. Buy a lot of used gear and stuff on closeout. I get all my skiing stuff at the ski swap, etc.

Fishing - Baits, Gasoline, Line, new rod/reel every year = $600-700
Hunting - I'm lucky here, my dad leases about 500 acres for $800 a year, so he won't let us contribute. Probably $300 for corn, tinks, and red bull.
Now if we're counting Golf, thats a whole nuther ball game.
p.s. dont tell my wife please.

Depends. Last year I spent a lot because I bought a few new stands. Pay a shite load into corn pre-season playing with game cameras.
Hunting Main expenses
2k on hunting lease
80 mile trip 2 or 3 days a week worth of gas
Fishing
70 dollar tank of gas will last 3 or 4 trips
Half tank gas for truck per trip
Several hundred on baits, beer, etc
I estimate probably 4 to 5k a year.

It seems the OB is doing it's part to stimulate the economy. I may join a hunting club this coming season back home.
That means I'll need a new 4-wheeler, trailer, 4-wheel drive hunting truck with mudgrips, build 2 stands, pay $750 for dues, buy a ton of corn since I won't be hunting the edge of a piece of cropland anymore, pay gas for a 100 mile round trip per weekend, buy a cheap camper to stay near the club on weekends...
I'm gonna be broke

Yeah I've been immune to the whole 'joining a lease' thing for about 15 years. I can't believe what kind of money it costs these days to join a decent one.
I like the fact that hunting is the cool thing to do now, but that is exactly why everything is so damn expensive nowadays.

quote:Stuff is expensive because people are willing to pay for it. $200 sunshades, $400 dollar ice chest or $10 worm hooks. People think if it costs more it must be better. It's not just hunting and fishing that's expensive. Stopped at Sonic for a couple of Soda Pops this weekend. With tip it was $5 for drinks only, didn't even get fries. But I digress.

Oh we're adding sunk costs like 4 wheelers, trailers, etc? Then tack several k's on to my number. As far as the $400 ice chests go, I have kept ice as long as a yeti in an Igloo marine ice chest. It doesn't look as cool though.

Land notes, hunting club dues, gas, feed, plus all the miscellaneous stuff (stands, clothing, ammo, etc), we are probably talking over $15k a year. Probably really close to $20k. If you add my Dad's expenses, he has the tractor and handles the food plots, we are definitely over $25k a year.
When you think about it, it's not really worth it for the 4 deer we killed last year, a few ducks, squirrels and fishing during the summer. However, when I cut timber, it will definitely worth it.
