When you think about it, it's not really worth it for the 4 deer we killed last year
When you break it down, wild game is the most expensive meat on the planet. And it's not even close.

Difference is we hunt wild game for horns or show.. not for meat.
If it was just hunting meat, everything would be seasonal. We would never spend 100 bucks in gas to go catch trout in the summers. Duck hunting would not be cost effective.

Most of my recreational spending goes to booze and outdoors. Hell almost all of it/

$2500 duck club
$60 gas to and from duck club x 15 =$900
$125 AR license
$30 gas to and from turkey land x 10 = $300
Duck ammo = $300
miscellaneous = $2000-5000
Annual fishing trip with friends ~ $1500
If I annualize trailer, ranger, shotguns, rifles, clothes, gear, etc
$50k per year.

My woman would say too much, I would say not enough.
I'm lucky to have family land to deer hunt so I don't have lease fees. I duck hunt public land. I don't own a fourwheeler so theres no cost there, and I process all my game myself. Most of my expenses are fuel, beer, and food.
I don't own a boat, so I generally just split fuel expenses with my friends. With fuel being high as giraffe nuts it's still expensive.

As a percentage of my income well over 50% but that is only because I can't work very much during the school year so most of my money goes towards either gas, beer, rooms, or fishing/hunting gear.

Imma guess $20,000-30,000 on average. Could be alot lower, but I like my toys.
Be alot higher if I include property taxes on land and lake homes/cabins/lodge. And upkeep on these. shite!!! I don't wanna think about it.

Yall are not adding in the big expenses, like a boat that cost$25000 that last might last you 10 years so you might as well add 25000/10yr = $2500 a year to your addiction. Tractors,implements,atv,camper,camp,etc...

how do you spend $250 per trout trip?
$80 in truck gas to get there and back
$100 in food and beer
$160 in boat gas/day (I run for em)
$30 in two cycle oil
$40 in bait
$20 in tackle
Divided by two and its my boat, so I never get paid for oil and tackle, etc. It works out to $250/trip easily. Sorry my dad isn't paying for it.

Not why I hunt.

Not this either.

I hunt for meat and for show. Doesn't change the fact that 95% of what I kill ends up as only meat and not wall hangers. Therefore, the price of that meat is pretty high. But I do get a lot of enjoyment out of just being out there and can't wait until my little girl is old enough to sit still and get out there with me.
