Hook Color for Specks

Hey guys, wanted to get your opinion on this. I'm starting to learn hard plastics and how to fish for larger speckled trout. The question I have is whether hook color matters.
For context, one thing I don't like about these types of lures is treble hooks. They get caught on everything, they are far more dangerous to me and people on my boat, and they absolutely tear the fish up.
So I'm switching to inline hooks, and when I do this, I could use silver-ish colors, red, or black.
But, does it even matter? Can I just go with cheapest option?
Thanks y'all!

I don't know that it matters very much. I always have good luck with gold hooks.

I do not think the color makes a major difference. I will say if you are fishing saltwater the cheapest option is not going to be your best bet. My Dad calls the tremble hooks.

Worrying about hook color is a waste of time.
If the fish were that discerning, they wouldn’t hit something that only vaguely resembled something natural with hooks hanging off of it, at all.

Yeah I'm over thinking it. Was thinking about barrel swivels where fish may hit the swivel, but in this case that'd only mean the fish would hit the hooks which isn't much of a problem.
Ahh what a couple hours of sleep will do to a brain.

I would worry more about what hooks hold up to rust. I’ve heard people recommend the red vmc for treble hooks that don’t rust as quickly.
Trout can be picky but not as much as tackle makers would like you to believe

It's Pride month, try the rainbow ones

Color doesn’t make a shite. Most important thing is one that’ll hold the plastic on there the best when ya getting bites.

I prefer plain lead head with gold hooks.

That's a really good point. Changing all these hooks out is a pain, don't want to have to do it several times a year.
I didn't get the red vmc but I got the black ones. Let's hope they hold up as well as the red ones.

For trout I like gold hooks but it probably does not matter the majority of the time.

I still catch fish on antique yellow and white Boone Shad rigs. They have a dull galvanized hook. We don’t need to specialized stuff to catch fish.
No matter what color hook you use there is only one guarantee.
If it’s not in the water you won’t catch anything.

Trebles have a lot higher hook up rate. That rate also applies to you, fellow boaters, carpet, nets, etc etc.
I don't blame you for swapping them

My Dad used to say that if he fell out of an airplane he would rather have a MirroLure with three treble hooks than a parachute.

I don't think so. I like silver or red best

For bass (and I'd likewise assume trout but I've never seen actual footage to confirm) a different colored or even a feathered treble gives the fish something to key in on with topwater baits and can entice some hits vs just follows.

Today they were hitting yellow hook heads with lemon plastics. But I don’t think color matters that much. When they hit, they hit. When they don’t, blame it on the color.

Went on a trout charter years ago and he used black kale hooks and said he thought they worked better than silver but I’m not sold on it
