Honda Rancher dies every time it starts - fixed

2002 honda rancher will initially start up no problem. Runs for 1-3 minutes then slowly spudders/looses power until it dies. It won't even turn the tires in 1st gear but will continue to run until it dies. It will begin to spudder even if im doing 30mph.
Sometimes it will start again in a minute but others I have to wait overnight.
The carb was replaced a little over a year ago. I have already taken it off and cleaned it and installed a new fuel filter.
Am I losing compression? The bike has been through a lot but I haven't had major engine trouble yet so this may be it's time
UPDATE - fuel line seemed to be deteriorating even with stabilizer and needle valve must have been stuck. Replaced the lines. Took apart carb and cleaned it. Runs like a top now

Bad compression usually makes it difficult to start. Sounds like a fuel issue.

Carb. If u left gas with ethanol in it could be an issue.

I'm thinking fuel too. If I pull fuel line where it enters carb it will drain. It's not a full on rushing flow but a steady drain. When i loosen the carb drain screw the gas comes out there too.
I know carbs are usually the culprit but no fuel sat in it for a long time. I use it every week. I use stabilizer if i use ethanol

The boys said mine was doing that. I put gas in it and had no problems. Not sure they thought of that. Haha

Crank it at night in the dark and look for sparks from the plug wire. If nothing there when it dies IMMEDIATELY put a tester on the plug and see if the coil if firing. Sometimes a coil will heat up and if one of the windings are broken will separate losing fire and after it cools will start firing again.

who replaced the carb? If they didnt use factory parts it could be a bad "new"carb. Speaking from experience.

Barney - I'll try that sometime this week. Thanks.
Spoon - I replaced it with an aftermarket carb and hasn't had a hiccup but it hasn't been ruled out yet.

I had an old honda bike that wouldnt fire on a cylinder until it heated up.

It could be electrical or fuel related.
If I looked at it of course check fuel.
Then there is tool to put on the plug and plug wire.
It shows the spark and you can see if you lose spark.

I'd bet $10 you have a sticky float/needle. Next time it does it, gently tap the carb with a screwdriver. It'll unstick the needle and float, temporarily, and will start again.
Running 1-2 minutes then dying is a tell-tale of burning the fuel in the carb bowl, then running dry.
Usually a venting issue will run for longer, though to be sure you can try running it with the fuel cap off.

I was going to suggest this. Our old 250 was doing this last season. I fought it for months before finally finding the spiders nest in the tank vent hose.

This - The Chonda (Chinese Honda Clone) carbs are a crap shoot.

The ethanol ate up my fuel lines and the remnant rubber would stop up the carb.
Let it sit. Then it’d crank then go dead in a few minutes. It’s a pain to get it Straight

I tried tapping the carb because my first thought was a sticking float. No luck.
I thought about the spiders nest. I pushed some air through the lines and I'm getting return...
I agree with burning the fuel in the bowl. Im lost on the "why"

My foreman was acting kind of like that. It was the spark plug.

It sounds to me like a carb float problem. The carb is using up the fuel in the bowl and then dying.

I'm having the same problem. It always starts but I never know when its gonna act up. I replaced the carb this past summer with a new carb from amazon. Wonder if that's it...
