Wait, you're right. I have a 455, not a 452. I think it was discontinued a few years ago too, though.

Savage B17 FV-SR
I bought this one yesterday. I love where the safety is located.
For those complaining about the magazine, Savage has upgraded them to the 10-round rotary style. Big improvement over what they used previously.

You’re right. I have the 452 in .17HMR. I bought it right when the 453 came out.

453 was discontinued before the 452, or they were doscontinued together. The 453 has a single set trigger. The 452 and 453 were available at the same time. They were replaced by the 455 I believe.

Which has been replaced. Like I said above.

I bought a Savage a few years ago because my local gun shop had them on sale for like $180 or something ridiculous and I had been wanting a 17.
It came with a cheap scope so all I did was put a bipod on it and zeroed it and it would stack em on top of each other out to about 100 yards. The mag on it did suck bad at first like others have said, but mine got better after a few boxes got run through it. That accu-trigger is nice though.
I think the lightest you can set it to is 2 or 2.5 lbs and I thought I'd love it that light, but I was much better with it at about 3.5 lbs. So that was pretty nice being able to adjust the pull so easily. If Savage has done anything right over the past several years, it's the Accu trigger.

I’ve got the Ruger with a stainless barrel and it’s a tack driver. Had it for several years with zero complaints.

own a Tikka T1x, multiple Savage model 93 rimfires and have shot a Savage B17 in 17 WSM. I’ve never shot a Ruger Precision, but I’ve owned a Ruger 77/22 for 35 years. I’ll throw in another bolt action 17 HMR you didn’t mention, the Howa Model 1100. I’ve been happy w/ all the aforementioned rimfires I own, as well as the B17 I shot. I know the OP is not interested in CZ, but I’ve shot a friend’s 17 HMR CZ and it’s a ½”-3/4” gun at 100 yards. Your decision will largely come down to answering some questions: 1. How much money are you willing to pay for a slight improvement in accuracy? I caught my Savage on sale so that it was $225 cheaper than the Tikka. Using favorite ammo, the Tikka reliably shoots 5 shot groups at 50 yards of ½” whereas the Savage and Howa groups are reliably 6/10”-3/4.” 2. What traits are important to you, for example type of magazine, type of safety, how the gun points, etc. 3. How nicely finished do you want the gun to be? The Tikka will be more nicely finished than the others. With the Savage, you might even need to work on it a little work like I did. The Model B17 Savage you’re looking at is a little nicer than the typical Model 83 Savage.
TLDR Summary. There are always outliers, but from my experience, of the guns you mentioned I’d expect the Tikka will be the most accurate, followed closely by the Savage and the Howa; I’d expect the Ruger American Rimfire to have similar accuracy to the Savage and the Howa. My vintage Ruger 77/22 is not quite as accurate as the Tikka, but slightly better than the others. If interested, here are my reviews of

I knew there was another one I couldn't think of. Wouldn't mind trying one of these.

Awesome comparison and thank you.
Right now I am leaning towards the 16" Tikka.
It seems that it is the sweet spot between great fit and finish and great accuracy, for a decent price.
I know the Savage will be accurate, but rough fit and finish. I am not a snob, but dont mind spending a bit more for a bit better.
CZ only has a 5 round magazine, no threaded barrel on the models I like, and cost more.
Biggest issue right now, my estimated price of $450 for the Tikka is off. Its $450 for the 20" threaded barrel, $505 for the 16".
I do know that I want a rotary box magazine. Smaller, less to hangup on, larger capacity. Another reason I srolled past CZ.

You can get 10 round mags from CZ, and they work like butter.
Yeah, the CZs cost a little more, because they're worth it.

My understanding is that they are all imported with 20” barrels and they are cut and threaded stateside.
Turns out, the $505 price is rare too. Most are around $575.
As of right now, I’m on the hunt for a 16” Tikka for $450.

I did not know it had ceased production.
I was sure that your timeline was off, because my brother bought a new one much more recently than 10 years ago.
Looks like production ended in 2017.
A shame since this was a great gun at a bargain price.

I agree, I did not like the 455 nut I like the looks of the new one and that it has a slightly longer barrel.
