You're acting like there's a huge difference though. Revolvers can mess up too.
There are cheap revolvers that are far less reliable than a Ruger or S&W. There are lots of cheap (and quite a few expensive) semi-autos that are far less reliable than an M&P, a SIG, an HK or a Glock.
Anyone considering a handgun for self-defense should get a quality gun. Anything mechanical can fail, but the probability of experiencing a failure can be reduced by selecting a make & model with a proven record of reliability.

Except that it is.
You know, for normal people.

No, he isn't. In 2019, a revolver is no longer the best choice. Hell, in 1989 it wasn't the best choice.

This will be fun.

Probably. People are usually reluctant to admit they don't know what they're talking about.

You can put me in this category of not being anywhere near an expert. Not even mid level. . I just still like what I like. It it was very fun and informative to do the research.
But the guy that said this:
quote:
You need to see which ones feel comfortable in your hand. Then go to a range and shoot them. You probably have a good idea after that...
Is right.
I supposed that includes pistols and revolvers.

I'm sure you'll get around to it one day.
Many people arent going to practice clearing jams unless their gun actually jams. They are going to practice pulling the trigger if they practice anything at all. To operate a revolver, just pull the trigger.
Let's go through some more revolver positives:
-It will function with the barrel jammed against something
-Most can shoot multiple calibers (38/357)
-It will function if it is limp wristed
-It will function if one round is a dud
-Anybody strong enough to pull the trigger can fully operate it

You're still stuck on going bang as the only thing that matters.
Because you don't know what you're talking about.
Like I said...
This was already explained for you. Just read this until you get it.

At the risk of providing voyeuristic pleasure to your sycophant, it should have been pretty clear that I was referring to Downshift's statements that I quoted in my post - and that I was replying to a member who quoted those statements. I'm quite sure I have never claimed that revolvers are the best choice now, or that they were in 1989, or that they were in any year since then.
I'm well aware of your penchant for arguing, but you'll have to do so with someone else. Unless the topic is snake identification - then we could have a debate.

I quoted the relevant part of your post and addressed it. If you don't want to defend it, don't. I don't care.

My $0.02:
If you are new to shooting in general (or handguns in particular), you first need to have something to learn / train with.
IMHO, the ideal trainer for newbies, and for the instruction of women and children, is a Ruger SP-101 in 22LR.
Ammunition is cheap, which removes one excuse for not practicing.
Recoil and noise are [comparatively] minimal, allowing the instructee to concentrate on fundamentals of safety, gunhandling, and marksmanship.
And it's very easy to verify that a double-action revolver is unloaded -- an important thing for the uninitiated.
Once basic good habits have become ingrained, it’s a lot easier to transition to something bigger.
And you get the added bonus of ending up with two guns, instead of one.

They are not the cheapest. But a 1911 in .45 acp has been the King of Semi-Autos for over 100 years. The clips hold less rounds than a 9mm. But so much more knockdown power. My wife shoots my full sized S&W 1911 TA as good, if not better than me. See how they fit your hands.

There are guns, and then there is working art.
