They're both around 70 years old, they're both selling products and services, and both have an interest in not pissing off large portions of their customer base and sponsors. But sure, they've "recommended" revolvers in the past. I've received training from both. They were perfectly fine, but like any other instructor, you take what is useful and move on.

Good choice. I think somebody said it earlier, but I would also recommend taking a class so you can learn the fundamentals.
