Heavy Duty Tire Plug Kit

As we spend time in remote areas with thorn trees, stobs, etc., just looking to puncture a truck tire, does anyone have a link to a heavy-duty tire plug kit they really like?

I just use the cheap little kit from Walmart. Get different size plug strips. Never had issues, and don’t see the justification to just get some fancier/heavier duty file/plugger.

I keep a kit in my truck with a small 12V air compressor, various size pliers to pull out nails/etc, and the plug kit.

I buy plugs at Northern Tools. Good kit from them also. Drive hunting truck to ranch in Mexico with load range E All Terrain Goodrich tires. Lots of mesquite, thorns, and sticks. If a puncture the plugs are badass. If a rock puncture it is iffy. Put 3 plugs in once in the shoulder transition and made it back home. Had a decent leak that required me to top up about once an hour. I always have a 12V compressor.

Not sure what a heavy duty plug would be like or if they are any different from any quality plug. Interested to see what people recommend in this thread.

I’ve taken two spares to Wyoming a couple of times. Plug kit and air compressor in the truck, as well.

re: Heavy Duty Tire Plug Kit
Im going on 60,000 miles on some Slime plugs. A tip I have is if you are carrying a drill with you, drill out smaller punctures to a larger diameter. Sometimes the reamer tool doesnt do a good enough job and Ive had some of the plugs not catch and take properly in small holes. Feels weird to drill a tire but I do it all the time now.

No experience with it, but this looks like a real nice hard case kit for $28.

This is what I carry too, just plugged a tire yesterday with it. The hole was so small and at a bad angle, I had to use a hammer to get the reamer tool in.

I saw some "heavy-duty" kits on amazon, just wondered if anyone had a different kit.

I just pull the tire off…it’s never a good angle otherwise.

You can cut the handle off the reamer and chuck the tool into the drill and let it eat.

I’ve also had plugs go for basically the life of a tire. Never once have I had a plug taken out and patched like recommended.

Be careful with that cheap platic handle on the reamer. Ive seen one bresk and the metal almost go thru someones hand.

Never let me down

Different sizes for different ties iirc

I’ve seen them hold on a race track too. Don’t recommend this but they won’t fail at high speed+temp.

Holy Lee Fuk, you're a red-neck genius. I thought I had some redneck skills, but you take it to another level.

Use the Blackjack kit on the farm. Has nice heavy tools in it.

I bought a pipe steel handle reamer and plug punch combo at my local co-op. Don't have to sweat running anything through my hand but honestly I keep a cordless drill and bit set in the toolbox and that gets used 100% of the time

I second the Safety Seal kit. I have put hundreds of plugs in truck, car, and trailer tires over the last 20 years with the same kit. They sell refill kits too.
