I'm sorry to see/hear about you getting shot, and am glad you are ok but
jesus, reading these stories in this thread..
You frickers are some not safe hunters. There is no such thing as an accident when dealing with loaded firearms. There are only avoidable incidents.
1. Do not ever hunt with a stranger who you haven't thoroughly evaluated his/her handling of their firearm.

BK and walked to the Staring Motel and got a room.
I've passed this place a million times and it seems shady as hell. A couple I used to know from high school would get rooms there and said they could rent by the hour and the tv only played pornos, but that was 20 years ago. I can only imagine what goes on in that place now.

Pure awesomeness.
Prayers for a safe recovery T4. Too close for comfort.
Me and my "bud" would have a long sit-down on our future as buds. While I realize it was an accident, some folks are just more careless with weapons than others. I choose not to spend time around those that do not "get it" when it comes to gun safety.
Ok ..thats the serious part. Now on to the fun...
-whoever said your bud was a bad shot knows nothing bout hog huntin..looks just off the ear to me.
- Might want to consider a different choice of shirt color next time...BOAR BLACK MAY BE ALL THE RAGE IN HUNTING CIRCLES BUT NOT THE BEST CHOICE FOR SPUR OF THE MOMENT HAWG ACTION.
-Be glad it was an -06. Slower caliber would have expanded quicker and possibly did you in.
That said, once again proof that the .243 would not have been a good caliber here either. (ongoing OT joke)
- Finally , unless you were crawling on hands and knees, your hunting bud has absolutely no situational awareness of the height of your intended quarry. However this is forgiven if he jumped up and shouted "I killed Hogzilla" after the shot.
P.S. Did I mention how I would have a talk with your hunting bud before our friendship continued?

I've heard so many people talk about hunters ed classes being boring and useless. I'm an example of why they are needed. Even very experienced hunters can have an accident. It only takes a split second decision to alter the course of many lives.
As an instructor, I can't begin to tell you how lucky you are...and no, your friend did not make less mistakes than you...he broke a cardinal rule of firearm safety.

You should see the scar on the back of T4's neck. It will keep you up at night.
Really no reason he is not dead or a quadriplegic. The bullet path through/around his spine defies explanation. And the guy who shot him wasn't a novice hunter. Two experienced, reasonable guys who each made a couple of mistakes that intersected into a near tragedy.
If you study airline crashes you will find it's never one thing. It's always a series of 4, 5, or 6 mistakes that happen in an unlucky, unbroken, sequence. All it takes is one good decision to break the chain.

This thread should be reposted every huntin season as a reminder of what can happen. Crazy man. Can't even imagine.

I try to do this but the baws at the refuge get irritated at me from holding them up at the parking lot before they can get into the woods.

No pre surgery pics, I was a little preoccupied with keeping everyone from freaking out and didn't have time for a selfie.

Don't ever waste money on a lottery ticket. You used all your luck up that day.
