My dog may have been bit by this snake a few minutes ago. I don’t know anything about snakes but research indicates just a water snake. Should I bring her to the vet? No punctures seen and she is acting normally, but we are freaking out.

Looks like snake with a frog’s head or a frog with a snake’s body.

Either way, the dog will be fine.

Dogs handle snake bites very well. Ive seen plenty with cottonmouth bites and it just slows them down for a day or two. Never seen one have any kind of long lasting effects.

I had a Boykin Spaniel get popped by a copperhead many, many moons ago. We were way out in boonies in E. Tennessee. We found a pay phone (pre cell phone days) and called the UT vet school. They said find some Childerens beneydrl and give him a dose. He slept it off and was just fine the next day.

Dogs can take 100mg of beneydrl easy.

Problems from snake bites without treatment, meat rot under the skin. It can get very bad. Most times when a dog gets bit, very little venom gets in them. But if a snake injects a shite load in, that is when there can be big problems.

Had a dog get popped by a snake(probably a moccasin, lived near the water) and his face swelled up like a melon and foamed at the mouth. We called vet and got him a shot. If your dog is fine , I’d guess it’s definitely a water snake.
