A buck must have them in order to become a "trophy"

Is there more than one club on that Island?

Probably thinking of Rifle Point, though last I was there it was for family and guests.

Before it was “ Giles Island” it was our hunting club. You could kill a limit of woodies, squirrels and a 130” deer in a day usually without breaking a sweat.

I have so many vivid memories from the place and 10 years we spent there. I’ve not found the wherewithal to go back as it’s was fairly traumatizing getting booted from there.

The habitat they are creating over there is going to be unreal in 20 years. I mean its awesome now but they are planning and planting for the future. Wild fruit and nut trees have been extensively planted and I'd guess that will continue. One of the few places where the trees are being managed specifically for wildlife and not for logging.

Biggest I’ve killed was 152”. I got one that was 133” this year. Im hoping Giles Island will help me top that 152” for that kind of money.

I've killed a 152" 11pt, 131" 8pt, 130" 8pt with gun and 118" 8 with bow and about 3-4 does with bow the last 8-9 years I've been going there.

This year with newest rules in place I have a harder time suggesting people spend their personal money on a hunt there unless they throw that kind of money around every year and have lower expectations.

I've never been but I have a few friends that go every year. They kill some nice deer. I just don't think I could spend that kind of money (rifle price) to shoot a 130" 8 point. I think the bow hunts are a little more realistic in pricing. I feel like they are shooting less big deer and more "management" deer the past couple years. This is just from following Giles on Facebook and seeing the kills. Like I said I have never been so I have no personal experience.

Have some friends that hunt it every year... apparently there is some kind of insane “slot” that has been put into effect. Can’t remember if it started this season or last. They still like going though.

4800.00 for 3 day gun hunt + 450.00 guide tip (includes videoing, cleaning, processing and you’re allowed 1 trophy and 1 management buck)

2200.00 for bow hunt + 450.00 guide tip (same as above)

It's an awesome experience. Super nice accommodations. Very comfortable beds and lodges but you're not paying to kill a deer. You're paying to stay and be fed 3.5 square meals and get taken out hunting 6 times either in very nice shooting houses or pretty decent box stands if you're gun hunting or you can go climb and they have nice millennium ladders if you're bow hunting, but just don't pay that money if you're not OK leaving there without a buck.

Check out some places in Oklahoma. You'll be surprised. It's not Mississippi river bottom hunting with 5 star accommodations, but the chance for a giant is there

I Google Maps Giles Island.

Is the hunting in Louisiana or Mississippi?

Giles is just so close. I agree though, if I’m paying that kind of money I’d like a chance to kill something fairly big. I’ve done the high fence thing and while it’s fun and comfortable, it’s just not the same as fair chase.

Any other recommendations on places to go for 5k or less with a chance to kill 150+ deer?

Check out Tara. It's in Mississippi too.
Tombstone Creek is in N Missouri and it's bow hunting only. It's semi guided but they kill nice deer. No way as close to guaranteed as Giles. The owner is coming down in a few weeks to hunt hogs with me.
Bend of the River outfitters is where I went this past Nov. They have some nice deer and a lot of them but I wouldn't expect a 150.
Also check out suspect outfitting in Ok. They have some hammers and I think they are 3k for 5 days.
