In the FL Keys. Caught this fish earlier today and can't figure out what the hell it is. Kind of looks like some sort of variety of Angel Fish or Trigger Fish. But I can't pin it down. Any ideas?

It looks like a tough SOB.. already survived one person’s BBQ pit

I don’t have the answer but looks interesting.
Not sure if you kept him or not. If you are doing catch and release a dry towel isn’t good for the fish’s protective slime. Much better to handle them with wet hands if possible

Looks to be in the tang family judging by the barb by the tail and the dorsal fun. No idea FL had anything like that

Yeah I think it's this variety: Doctorfish Tang (Acanthurus chirurgus)

There's only 2 things in this world that smell like fish... and one of them is fish.

Are you holding it with a towel so you don't get your fingers icky?
Posted on 3/15/19 at 9:48 pm to deeprig9
I think the person holding is just the guy that rebates the hooks for Bacon.

If it’s a surgeonfish you want to watch those “fins” on the sides just in front of the tail. Small and rigid and sharp as a scalpel.... Which is why they call them surgeon fish...

Good find. Haven't dealt with aquarium fish for a while.

Looks like the above posts are correct. Here's another shot of the Doctorfish Tang with less aquarium blue lighting:

I didn’t want to mess up my manicure.
Thanks Coco for figuring it out.:coco2:
