Finally putting up Hog Excluder fencing in food plots

Around the spinner feeders. Very excited about this. We were able to get a good deal on welded 36” fencing and a lot of T Posts so we are doing 60’ diameter, barbed wire reenforced
Anyone have experience with this? Does it help ?

i dont know anything about this subject, but seems like if it keeps hogs out, wont it also somewhat keep the deer out as well?

Not if it’s big enough of an enclosure and only 3 ft high.
They’ve been doing it in Texas and Alabama with great success. I’m probably one of the first to do it in SWLA. Maybe not. But Co Op had no idea what I was doing lol

We have them on our lease. It has slowed down the hogs. We have more of a pen. We cut the height down to 28” so the fawns can jump in. 16’ foot square.

How high can hogs jump? I can’t imagine it would have to be more than 24” or so. Makes sense OP, idk.
I’d also wonder why you couldn’t make a trap like this. Make it low to the ground they can jump one way but can’t jump out.

There are similar traps. We did a lot of research in the area by asking around to the big farms and they all said at leas 30 ft from the center of the feeder all the way around which is 60” diameter I think. That way the deer don’t think it’s a trap. Just a hurdle.
Hogs can’t jump. They can get their front legs up on something pretty high. Hence the barbed wire on the top and bottom. And the t posts every five feet. It should be enough

We have been using them for 4 years. We get the hog panels from tractor supply. We use 13 panels per pen. Have some in the woods that are a little smaller and have had no problem with deer jumping in them. We saw hogs walking around them the first year but now we rarely get a pic of a hog at a feeder pen.

Did you cut the entire diameter down to 28” or just a couple sections?

Our deer have to constantly jump barbed wire fences to get anywhere

They jump over cattle fences to get on my land every day

We have been using the panels from tractor supply now for about 5-6 yrs. We have three panel pens set up and hade 4 and have never had a hog breach it l. We feed almost year around corn/pellets and every once in a while we get a pig cruising by but have never had a breach the bottoms have so much grass they prolly don’t need stakes. Ours are six or 7 panels strung together and the deer jumped them on night 2, my buddy tried to be cheap and used 3 and for two months never got a deer pic.

well that makes sense then, i was thinking they were like dogs that walk around rather than go over stuff

So your buddy made the pen too small

In my 67 years of life, I have never seen a quality buck jump into a fenced feeder. Just won't happen. Depending on where you hunt, you will see them very far from a fenced feeder. If you are meat hunting this makes sense, but not really, just shoot the hogs.

I’m not trying to get a quality buck into the feeder. I’m trying to supplement my deer herd and get does into the field so we can maybe have a shot on a big buck on the edge of the field.
There is still a historic drought. Can’t grow all my food.

We have 22inch high panels cut from “hog panel.” Only need to cut 2-3 feet wide chutes for the fawns. Cut the chutes where you want the deer to enter based on stand placement.
Bigger is better for the older bucks but they will fight to get the rice bran. Hogs won’t try very hard to get food if the bottom is secured. Complete opposite of building a hog trap.
I’d recommend moving the feeder in the woods and it will see more use than out in the open.

I can promise you they will jump in and not hesitate. It does not bother them at all.
