Y'all should see all the baws out in FULL FORCE.

Yeti & Salt Life stickers. Truck nuts. All terrain tires that have never had an ounce of actual mud on them.

That said, they do have some great stuff in there. I could walk in with $10,000 in cash & still not walk out with everything I want from there...

Dicks sucks. I've been disappointed every time I've been. They don't have much of an outdoor section, it's all running and golf and crap. Academy blows Dicks away.

The Dicks in Auburn sucks so much that no one ever goes there. That's precisely the reason why I stop by there from time to time to fill my rimfire addiction.

That's because their Field & Stream stores handle the outdoor side.
After going thru it last night, I'd venture to say that Academy is going to lose out on business big time to F&S. Much better selection, store layout, product quality, & knowledgeable/friendly staff.
That said, I hope places like Pack & Paddle can maintain their footprint with their services as well as coordinated events.

Academy is Sam's Club as F&S is Costco now IMO. I might never set foot in Academy again.

This X1000. Only thing I've ever bought at Dick's is my Cobra golf clubs and that's only because we didn't have an Academy close by in Huntsville at the time. Now we have an Academy in Madison..I drive across H'ville to shop there instead of Dicks not 3 miles from my house.

Dicks is for the "once-in-a-lifetime" sportsman...and for women looking for fashion running wear.

Yes but will field and stream compete with Academy? I can usually get better prices at Academy than on Amazon.

A few of my coworkers went. They took pics. Looks nice. I'll check it out in April.

Academy is generally going to have better prices. If academy has it, it's usually cheaper there than anywhere else.

I went last night, and no. Their prices generally won't compete with Academy but they destroy them in selection and quality.

For Price Example:
Rapala Skitter walk at Academy is $7.99. At Field & Stream it is $9.99. They were a few dollars more on some things but bigger things like reels they were equal on.

That being said they have one of the best selection of saltwater baits I have ever seen in a store. Who ever came up with the inventory knows the area well and what people fish with. It will hurt Academy because of their selection for sure. Not to mention it is way nicer and laid out much better.

They also have a very large hunting section also with lots of guns. Didn't check it out too much but it probably had more guns than Lafayette Shooters. A decent kayak selection (nothing like P&P) but they carry Old Town kayaks.

Most Dick's have a crappy hunting and fishing department but with the Field & Stream combined it is really nice. The regional guy told me it is only the 5th location with a Dick's and Field & Stream in essentially the same building.

Overall I was very impressed with Field & Stream. It was very similar to a Bass Pro Shop in there. I didn't spend much time in Dick's to say anything about it other than it looked like any other Dick's I had been to, but just 1 floor because it didn't have any outdoors stuff.

How crowded was it? I'd like to go check it out but trying to decide if I need to wait a couple months.

The parking lot was full but the store is really big so it wasn't bad at all. There was people but it wasn't like you were bumping into people every where. The layout helps also

They opened up a Dick's/Field & Stream in Mobile, AL a few months ago and I was completely disappointed in the F & S. Have no desire to go back. Academy all day, everyday.

I try to shop as local as I can. But with 3 kids, convenience goes a LONG way.

Same here, 99% of my outdoor activity is fishing. I'd love to be able to support Pack and Paddle more but with them closing at 6pm and being across town I can rarely get there for tackle. They do carry alot of the stuff that big box stores never have though.

Yep, Academy is the Wal-mart of sporting goods stores and they don't spend money on things like the decor of the store. That's not a bad thing. Field and Stream seems like a step between Academy and Cabela's/Bass Pro, but for smaller markets.
