Depends on the drop is gas mileage. The gas burner is going to drop more then the diesel, from my experience.

Sure it will. But gas is still cheaper than diesel, by a good amount. Additionally, that engine is a $7500 upgrade. I did the math a few pages back, it will take 18 years 11 years to even pay for the diesel engine.

It is just a matter if fact that most people get rid of cars within a 6yr time span. Might as well get the best resale by getting options that sell.

How often do you see bright yellow trucks selling?

Oh I agree that for his use the gas engine was the better choice. I'd probably still buy a used truck since he'll have it parked most of the time. He'll just have to do a lot more work.

And with 4.30 gears you don't be seeing much drop at 12k pounds.

4.30's are LOW

That's what I'm saying if the diesel isn't getting good mileage towing and that's what you mainly use it for then to me the extra price for diesel no more than you use it doesn't make sense, unless like someone mentioned earlier for resale later down the road would be better.

I agree. However, the OP is putting less than 1,500 miles on the truck a year. I doubt that he is getting rid of it after 6 years, even 10 years.

I dont follow you here. Unless you are literally meaning yellow trucks, then never.

Very low. I had 3.73's in my truck and when I added larger tires, my mpg stayed the same, if not got better. Not as good on the bottom end but much better middle and top.

My Eco with 3.73s has taken a hit with the larger tires but not terribly

Diesels are for either resale value or longevity hauling heavy shite, or both.

Modern gas burner HD trucks are incredibly well built though. I know of two chevy 3/4 tons with right at 200k hard miles on them of hay bales, tractors, cows, etc and they have shown no signs of giving up. Don't burn oil and still pull hard. It's not the 90's anymore. Gas burners coupled with 4.10 and numerically higher rear ends from today put diesels from the early 90's to complete shame IMO.

I used to drive a 5sp F350 dually with 4.30s. It tacked(or tached) out at 65mph, and got horrible hwy mileage, but it probably could pull a train up a 10% grade

4.88s would have made that a fun down low truck.

The new ford 6spds are double overdrives and supposedly do pretty good on gas even with 4.30s

I have a want.

I'll confirm this. In stock trim my 6.7 would do ~18mpg, hook it to a trailer and it would drop significally. When towing our 22ft enclosed trailer it would get around 8-10mpg. Even my 7.3 towing the same trailer did better than that.

Pre-programmer I was 12hwy and 12 city. Towing ~10k, it went down to 7mpg at 75mph.

With programmer, I get 25hwy and 19 city. Haven't towed anything that heavy with it, but I am guessing it would be 15-17 pulling 10k. I can almost go 700 miles on one tank, and it is the small one

How great is the 6.7 when it's de-hippied?

It's gotta be pretty fricking unreal

I may eventually look into DPF delete/tune. Since the lift/35's I'm averaging around 13-14mpg.

ETA: But it looks cool as hell doing it

Did you get a H&S before they went belly up or are you using a SCT tuner?

Your add, what size lift? I have a hard on for 4" lift and 35s or 36s on F250s. Look big and lots of room for articulation.

No idea, but I think the programmers are only getting an extra 150rwhp out of them must have some internal restrictions limiting that.

My programmer adds 375rwhp. Torque is off of the charts big(>1200 at the wheels).

Trust me.... GET STUDS!!! Don't put a programmer on without them. They are only $450, and that is much cheaper than replacing a motor.

I have 35s with no lift, DPF, DOC, EGR deletes, S&B intake, studs, and Spartan tuner. This is all on my new motor since I blew the first one running it on the wrong tune, pulling too much, too fast, for too long.

I don't rub with the 35s, and am an advocate of as low as possible. Don't need a lift to fit 35s, and I think it looks better with those tires and no lift
