Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, while the 6.7 is obviously a beast, its still too new to compare to the 7.3 and the cummins 5.9s.

Reliability wise, yes. Power wise, no.

That's what I mean as far as reliability goes. I guess I should've clarified.

An oil change for my 6.7 is comparable to the cost for an oil change in my previous 7.3.

You said this cost $150. I go 7500 miles (Ford recommends 10k) and it cost me $25 from Ford.

My BIL just traded his Diesel on the new Ford Gas engine. He likes the gas more. The Diesel was killing him at the pump and to operate.

Thanks Sammich for the details.

Aint no problem at all. I am no expert by any means but I do know that 99% of people that drive diesels do not need them. Now that number may be high but it is a cool number. Additionally, 99% (again cool number) of people who drive trucks do not need them but the like them. If you want a diesel for fun and play, by all means, get one. However, this guy wanted to know if he needed one and I just dont see it.

Diesel is more expensive than gasoline.
I pay $25 for an oil change, my dad pays $100 (6.7 Cummins)
I dont know how much DEF cost, diesel drivers do.

I edited one of my previous post to include my maintance cost, doing an oil change, new oil filter and fresh fuel filters for ~$150. DEF is ~$17 for 2.5 gallon jug and I'll add one jug every 4-5000 miles or so. I've just been driving a diesel for about the last 8 years so I guess I've grown accustomed to the high maintance cost.

Plus a diesel gets stuck on wet grass. And you will need a D8 to pull it out.

And like one of my previous post, nothing wrong with that. My dad used to need a diesel daily but now drives 10 miles a day and clogs his DPF up like crazy because of this. But, he loves his diesel and will drive em till he dies. It is the definition of, you gotta pay to play.

buy older 7.3 save tons of cash. dont see how it makes sense to spend a ton of money on something that wont ever be used that much.

more cash than brains?

Maybe he doesn't want a truck with high mileage and/ragged out.

That ~$150 included fuel filters which I change about every 15-20,000 miles. Usually just oil/oil filter runs $80. I wish it was only $25. The 7.3 required 3.9 gallons, I'd buy Rotella by the 5 gallon buckets.

I remember dad coming home from work with barrels of that shite. I swore that I would never drive a diesel because of it. Then Ford had to go and make a Platinum F250. Maybe next time.

I'm basically in the exact same boat. My family grew up doing livestock shows so my 7.3 was hooked to a trailer 2-3 times a week and often times had 1500lb of feed in the back once a week. Not counting that since I owned a diesel I was always nominated by my friends to pull the trailer when going ride ATVs or anything else. I sold the 7.3/bought a 6.7 about 10 months ago and I must admit that since we're no longer around livestock owning a diesel is a bit overkill. I now only tow things once or twice a month but this is esentially the truck of my dreams. Like you said, have to pay to play.
