I'm looking for input on the "Decked" truck-bed storage system. I could use the storage but don't like the amount of space (height - wise) that it takes up. How difficult are they to take in/out once they have been installed?

I have the Weather Guard Pack Rat in my work truck and I hate it. A coworker has the Decked system and it's a lot better. Don't know how hard/easy it would be to remove.

It takes up too much hauling space and limits the bed. I really feel like you need a camper top to make the best use of the decked system.

I agree with that
I went from a full size bed on a sierra to a much smaller compact bed on a gladiator. After much research and trial/error I went with a Leitner rack system with storage pods mounted on each side of the rack

It works beautifully and leaves the bed open for use. When I need more I can use the overhead rack bars to haul on

I have one in a Tacoma. It takes maybe 15 minutes to remove. The top plates come off, remove drawers (I think a roller has to be removed), then you can tilt up the frame and take it out without disassembly. Might be different with a decked that has the “ammo cans” close to the cab (mine only has them at the tailgate). I’ve taken mine out a couple of times (it’s out now) and done it by myself, but it’s much easier with help.

It took me several hours to assemble it originally, but I did have to drill a couple holes and add the brackets.

They've redesigned them and the quality is not like it used to be imo.

I have the new system and like it, especially with the camper top on. If it’s not on, I am not the biggest fan of the cargo glide, everything has to be strapped down.

It’s great for hunting season

Pros-1) each drawer holds 200 lbs of gear. They are lockable. Fairly weather resistant. You can order foam inserts and custom cutout for gear. 2) it’s is a sturdy unit. I put my quad on top of it.

Cons- 1) EXPENSIVE. 2) Takes up a lot of space in the bed of the truck. I have a back flip tonneau cover and I have 8” of space. Which I can fold up the tonneau cover and you can put 2000 lbs on top of it. 3) I don’t like track system or the hold downs. Great concept. But it’s junk. I fabricated some plates and installed 4 holding points with some 1/2” hardware. Now I can yank on that ratchet strap.

I’ve had mine for over 4 years. It protects my tools and gear. I like that you can lock the drawers and the tailgate and it is pretty secure. It is designed more for the contractor. Go from job site to job site. It adds some weight to the back end and makes the truck ride a little smoother over these rough arse roads in Louisiana.
Am I happy with it. Yes, for the most part. Would I recommended it. Yes, but you better think about how you intend to use it. I think if I would have put a topper on the back it would make it much easier to recommend.

I hope this helps

I’ve had mine in for the last couple of months, along with a bed cap.

Overall, I like it. But, one thing I really HATE and didn’t think about till the first time I had to do it…loading heavy stuff, like ice chests, totes, tool boxes, etc, now have to go up that much further to be in the truck. And getting them onto the tailgate is fine, but then it’s just an awkward lift to go from the tailgate up to the top of the deck.

I had one in a truck I bought a few years ago it would be great for those who just use a truck for the drawers. Ive found using my Packout is just easier than decked. Id much rather keep the room.

I had one about 6 years ago in a company truck. Sounds like they may have changed them but it was very solid, stuff in the drawers stayed dry. Raised the bed floor alot though and it can hold a literal ton of weight but you will definitely feel the raised center of gravity if you do. Stuff you put in the bed will be taller than the bedsides. Easy enough to take out and put back in.

I have a 2 level bed slide and underneath drawer system from Extendobed. They custom make their products so you design it and they will build it. They have many pictures to get ideas from. Mine has 4" high drawers.

I also have a camper top to keep it out of the weather.

It made me buy one of those rugged road coolers. Fits under the camper and on top of the cargo glide with ease. Super light, real game changer.

Deck system are great. The space they take up does not normally affect what you can carry. If have a cap on truck you don’t use the top 1-2 feet of space. The deck raises when floor but does not mean you can’t carry things. If you have a cap you were t putting a refrigerator in there anyway.

A buddy of mine had the Undercover* swing case toolbox. Loved it and it didn’t take up a ton of space since it tucked over to the side behind the wheel well.

* I think that was the name
