Town Talk article.
I just can't understand this.
quote:
The two birds were recovered on Oct. 7 and "displayed gunshot wounds from a small-caliber firearm," reads a release from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
That agency is working with the U.S. Forest Service and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on the case.
I just can't understand this.

Why? While I agree no one should be shooting eagles for the hell of it, people tend to romanticize a scavenger bird who's kind of a dick
We have a few in the really high cypress near us, and they routinely tie up in the air and try to kill each other.

Damn Alex, can't you keep those heathens in Rapides parish under control?

Is there a "cool" bird? All birds are kind of dicks.

Those asshats better not try that with the one that is nesting on Indian Creek Reservoir.

Whoever did it would have been better off to kill two people.

Not only shooting a Bald Eagle but probably using a 22 cal and zigging those to who knows where.

Put in at the Martin Springs launch and there is one in a tall dead tree about half way down the boat row between the bridge and when you hit the main lake....on the right headed towards the main lake. Saw it setting on the nest about a month ago, before they started draining the lake.
Nothing but mud behind my house right now..hope this kill the grass for a few years.

Thanks. I may go there Sunday.
The last time they drained it, there was a good perch bite under the bridge in late spring under cork. Can't wait.

Supposedly these two were not the eagles that USFS has a nest cam on Different set Not that it makes it any better. Shooting the National bird is like treason or terrorism or some shite

I watched one try to kill a cow bird with a bad wing last week. Cowbird hopped in the azaleas with inches to spare. Cow bird isn’t near the water anymore and has been following the donkeys around.

They aren't trying to kill each other... It's a little more fun for him than that

The most famous and recognizable of these rituals is the "cartwheel courtship flight," in which two bald eagles will fly up high, lock talons and then get into a cartwheel spin as they fall toward the ground, breaking apart at the last minute. "And [in] some cases they actually hit the ground," Watts said.
