I assume the outdoor board would be a better choice for answers than the OT.

I just leave the lid off and let it dry out, then put it in the trash.
But Im in for an answer as I have like 50 sample size things still in our garage.

i know acension once a year will take it during their parish wide recycling day. you can mix in cat litter and let it dry then it is acceptable to dispose of as long as it is no longer a liquid.

You might be able to find someone to take if off your hands. Back when I first got married and was broke we rented a shitty little house from a fellow. The interior walls were all strangely colored. One day I asked the old man that owned it about the color. He said he owned 20 something houses he rented and always wanted fresh paint when someone new moved in but didn't want to pay for new paint. He got partial gallons of paint from painters and would just keep adding to 5-gallon buckets and whatever color it ended up was the color for the new house.
Also, there's a similar story about how the Petty Blue color was made.

They make a paint drying powder
I did that when we were cleaning out my grandparents stuff
Does not work for stain

I found pouring the unused gallons on a sheet of plywood let it dry and pour the next one on top works well. Dries a lot faster than just leaving the cans open. Throw it all away or sell the painted sheet as art for millions.

Most of the Parishes in south Louisiana do a free collection of Hazardous waste quarterly. Also:

I needed this thread. I have about 15 cans in my shed that are over 10 yrs old and need to be thrown out. May try the powder if the hazardous waste disposal is more than 6mths out.

Baton Rouge does a recycle and paint collection day. Easiest one to get to was on LSU campus. Very convenient and easy

Where are you located?
The Green Project in New Orleans used to be my go to for this.
You can get a nice tax write off as a charitable donation.

I've been very unfortunate having lost all my old paint cans in a boating accident.

Leaving the can open takes fricking forever fwiw, like months.
I'd honestly mark it on your calendar for the drop off day.
I sold a house and had a bunch of paint to get rid and I made the mistake of pouring it all together in 3 5 gallon buckets and then tried to use those drying powders, cat litter, and by itself and none of them worked well.
