No, no, and frick no.
We did this ourselves a few years back. It sucks. Regulate among yourselves. More rules are not the answer to anything.

I do most of my deer hunting in MS and their system could be copied here. There are only 3 zones, and it goes by a 10" or 12" spread depending on the zone, or a 13" or 15" main beam depending on the zone. I have never been too interested in point limits because young 8 points with potential end up getting killed before they reach their potential. The rule we follow at our camp is if you kill a buck, you have to get a shoulder mount. Tacking on $400-$500 for that buck you want to shoot makes you pretty selective.

And you only have to meet one of those restrictions, not both.

maybe it should be a width limit or width/height of antlers
It would awfully hard to tell all this when the dogs are on his arse.

Yea it is.
I for one like having absolute control over if I shoot something or not. I self regulate myself depending on where I am and how I feel that day and there is zero stress. Seeing a buck and having to stress over if I can legally shoot it or not makes it more like a job than a hobby.

I hear what you're saying. I like MS's laws because they are not so strict to where you can't shoot a buck or two if you want to. Anything I shoot at will be no doubt legal because I will have it on the wall. I realize not everyone does the same so it will be hard to incorporate anything that will make all happy.

Antler restrictions in area 6 could make the first 15 days of bow season in our club almost pointless with the no doe rule.
I do think the state should manage areas differently based on what they have the potential to produce.

There's still shitty parts in every area. ie Livingston shares the same area with st franny (area 1) and avoyelles (area 6). While it would obviously help, I don't think it is feasible.

I'm not an advocate of blasting everything with a sack and stuff protruding from his head by any stretch, but I'm very much against being told what I can and cannot shoot.
When I see a deer I wanna shoot, there should be no paperwork keeping me from doing it.

On private land, I agree 100%.
On public land, nah. There's got to be some regs or retards will shoot anything that breathes.

Was the OP about public land? I didn't even read it. I agree with that for public land.

The problem with that is most people who have private land aren't hunting high fence. You and your neighbor are hunting the same deer most of the time unless you have thousands of acres. When one neighbor shoots anything while the other tries to shoot nice bucks, it will cause issues.

What does antler size have to do with anything? I care about the meat and I only hunt public land. I can go several hunts w/o seeing a deer so if a spike walks out he is getting shot. I think these stupid hunting shows the last few decades have commercialized the hell out of hunting and now everyone cares about antler size. If you do anything then maybe lessen the amount of bucks that can be killed. Instead of 3, say 1 or 2.

I hate me a hunting show. They have turned hunting into dick measuring contests.

True but I'm not a fan of telling someone what they can or can't do on their own land. It's their land that they bought or was handed down to them. They should be able to do as they wish.
FWIW, I'm not a meat hunter and I do think it's shitty that people shoot spikes and shite. But if they own the land, not much I can do about it.

I think he's referring to statewide anter restrictions regardless of public or private.

The only reason I hunt is for meat. Personally, I dont see a difference in killing a buck as a 4 point or waiting til he is a 10 point, its the same deer and I cant do shite with antlers.

Everybody thinks they are bioligist or they could have 160 class bucks if it wasn't for "X" reason.
Unless you have a ton of land and money its hard to do and not a whole lot of fun

I don't care for hunting shows either, but for a different reason. If I got to chase the rut around the country for 5 months I would kill my fair share of monsters too. That being said, I hunt for meat and horns. I depend on does for meat and hope to get a nice buck that will provide me with both.
