The big bucks are there already. No matter where I go there is always a trail camera picture of a buck bigger than anything they've killed in 10 years. Management isn't going to make him any bigger. He's old as shite and maxed out. Introducing genetics is the only way to change that.

Clearly you don't have an understanding of quality management practices. There are countless published studies showing the correlation between antler size, herd health, and maturity. It's not a secret recipe.

The goal is not to have 1 large trophy in the herd on trail cams. The goal is to have a dozen quality deer. Sure genetic limitations exist, but that's no reason to harvest juvenile and immature specimens.

You don't own the wildlife that lives on your land, unless you are high fenced.

I know a little about it. I'm a very diverse and well connected deer hunter.

Nope, exactly opposite of what should be done. adult bucks have 25% mortality and there is X amount of nutrition in an area. when you limit yourself to 3 or 4 or 18 on a side, you are leaving the below average deer. manage by killing culls by age, not size of antlers. My personal rule is 1st legal deer i see is down for the freezer, after that I only hunt culls. I often pass up good bodied bucks and does, as that is what i want breeding and taking advantage of the feed available.

No, but if the wildlife decides to run out on my land, I have the right to shoot it. Whether its a spike or a 12 point. And if the freezer is empty, I just may pop one off at the spike and theres nothing the man can do about it.

There are also studies that show we are descendants of apes so what's your point? Data can be skewed to say what you want.....point is hunting has become commercialized.Companies want the big buck mentality leading to increased profits

If you're comfortable justifying a hunter's decision to harvest a lesser animal, then be my guest.

My goal as a hunter is to produce, protect, and develop an animal to maturity, and then responsibly harvest that animal.

When my freezer is empty or someone is short on meat, I hunt does. I probably harvest 5 does for every one buck.

To each his own. But for me, I'm always going to lobby the Dept. of W&F to raise and restrict hunting.. I want to harvest a deer that I can be proud of.

Neither do the people saying I should only kill a buck a certain size.

Only regulation I'd like to see is 2 bucks and 2 does max per hunter and doe days.

When its on my plate at the dinner table is when Im proud of it, again, Ive never had big antlers on my plate, just the meat. If my dad would have been a trophy hunter I would have quit hunting in elementary school. Some people may be thinking I wish your dad was a trophy hunter

So you don't want to be told what to shoot, but are ok with being told when to shoot it, when you already have a legal season telling you when it's ok to shoot?

Do what you want on your property, I'll do what I want on mine.

I don't need the man to help me regulate my land, if I did, I'd enroll in DMAP.

I'm proud of any deer I kill to feed myself. Does that make you more important than me?

if you've ever killed something with big antlers, then you would more than likely would have gotten more meat on your plate out of that kill.

My uncle killed a 150#8 point with a 16in spread, I killed a 170 spike on the same hunt, we got more meat off my spike. Your logic does not always work.

When did I say I don't want to be told what to shoot?

I know what's going on in my area and deer numbers are way down. Unfortunatly I think its a result of both loss of habitat and everybody watching to many hunting shows thinking the need to kill more does because Lee and Tiffany said so

Key word in your statement HARVEST. I'm not a deer farmer so harvest is an inappropriate term. I raise cotton from a seed then harvest it once it mature. Seeing as how I dont own the wildlife on my land I can not raise it to maturity in order to harvest...so I KILL what I feel is appropriate on my property.

Or I could have instant meat and not go through an entire hunting season "waiting for the buck of a lifetime" to come out. If I had to guess nobody in the entire history of the world has ever cared about how big antlers were until the last 15 years or so.
