you posted a real life example of a situation where the gun owner didn't practice gun safety and did not have his fireman properly stored

Look, you don't understand.
I get it.

My father was taught to have one chambered IN BATTLE.

Are you in battle now?

If you think you are, you need to GTFO.

Exactly. Different people have different needs. Neither method is the right choice for everyone.

Here is a good article about keeping your weapon in C3. For some, it's the best option - like if you're young and have house guests of varying degrees of intelligence.

Hence my earlier question that you so gracefully dodged.

Yes, I am prepared for battle, if you are not, then why have a weapon. I have to be more prepared than my enemy, because my enemy dictates the time and place of the engagement, not me. I am not planning to attack or assault anyone, I am simply prepared to stop the evil in this world that intend harm to me or my family, but again, I don't know when that time will come. Evil determines that. Until then, I remain as prepared as I can, because yes, seconds count.

I was taught everything I know about weaponry from my father.

He served in Vietnam, USMC.

He didn't create the rules, the military did.
I periodically trained many marines in shipboard security, countermeasures and combat over a span of 20+years.

Those are most assuredly NOT the rules. You're making things up now.

I have a weapon for many reasons.

Battle is not number one.

I like to shoot shite.
Paper targets, clay, etc.

Marksmanship doesn't have to involve battle.

C'mon man, I didn't post any rules for battle.

That's my point - if you expect combat at your home, you should find a new hood.

Well, you don't need to keep a round chambered for that.

Clearly we've been talking about different things.

Crime happens everywhere, if you don't think it happens in the good parts of town, you're nuts. One is just as likely to get robbed in his high dollar neighbor than I am in my trailer park.

I've out shot many men.

Never had to be in a war to do that.

No offense, but do you really think your kids do everything you say?

yes I have sat down with my 12, 7, and 5 yr olds and showed them how to unload and load my guns, how to carry my guns, how to take off the safeties, let them fire some of my smaller caliber guns, and taught them to never touch a real gun unless me or their grandfathers are around.

I keep all my guns except for a 12 gauge, 9mm, and .357 magnum locked up.

I took them to the graveyard and showed them the grave of one of their cousins who was killed in his bedroom back in 1992 when a friend of his took off the safety and pulled the trigger of a 12 gauge thinking it was empty.

If you treat all guns as if they are hot and ready to go with the safety off then they will learn to respect guns all the time whether they are loaded or not.

Eh, not in my neighborhood. Probably the worst crime here is people smoking weed. It's a very very laid back area. Drifters or natives from the village cause most violent crime in this town and most are centered downtown. No one gets over to the island.

I've got kids around. I don't leave loaded guns in the house, and don't see a need. If I lived somewhere else I may feel differently.
