Most of their sales are non-AR, so they don’t care. ARs are plentiful, so they don’t care. Theirs are overpriced anyway. I haven’t bought hsit from them since their prices suck as well.

Considering the CEO’s father founded the company, I think he’s fairly safe and has the board behind him.

Um, that's not always how it works lol.

And your statement was rediculous, it’s on you to defend it. The entire point here is that the individual consumer doesn’t matter. Dick’s is a Fortune 500 company. A hundred or so guys getting pissy over this is a rounding error in their sales, assuming they even bought guns or even shopped there in the first place, and the overwhelming response is they never did. This is virtue signaling about virtue signaling.

This is dumb for a couple of reasons. One, it assumes that each individual consumer has equal purchasing power, which isn't true. Second, and possibly most importantly, one consumer can get on social media, declare their unsatisfaction/grievance, and then you have a hashtag demanding change. One turns into many. It's funny you think the individual has no power when that's exactly why companies are changing in the first place.

He’s been the CEO for thirty years. He made a staunch public statement when they took AR15s off the shelf, and has a track record of decisions like this. Um, sometimes that is how it works lol.

And if no one but a handful of people give a shite about that “hashtag”, or only claim to give a shite on social media but never actually shopped there, then nothing happens, and Dick’s never sees a difference. You’re essentially saying that the individual consumer can be influential... if a bunch of people agree. That’s prettymuch the point. Purchasing power? Are you really gonna double down on one person moving the needle?

“Is that a counter argument?” - you

You made a dumb statement and are doubling down on it. If your argument held any water Dicks and dozens of other companies would have gone out of business years ago on the heels of pissing off “individual consumers” yet, here they still are.

You're saying the consumer has no power yet you concede that a consumer can get others to join him or her and cause change. You're not making any sense.

If you think individual consumers have no power to create change within a company why don't you go into your web browser right now and type in "Starbucks". They are literally closing all company-owned stores for an entire day, lost profits, so that they can provide racial sensitivity training .

But, no, an individual consumer doesn't have power.

When I go to Lafayette (2-3 times a year), I always go into Field & Stream. That's a really cool store to check out. I assume it's still the only one in the state.

I'm not sure how/why they stay open. There's never many cars in the parking lot, and the couple times I've been inside there was no one at the registers buying anything. The selection is the same stuff they sell at Academy 1/2 a mile down the road at a higher markup. I guess they're after the Bass Pro crowd. Fishing selection isn't great. Never really looked at their gun selection.

This is going way over your head for some reason. The amount of people who are passionate enough about the second amendment to actually boycott a company and personally inconvenience themselves is a very small minority. Of that minority, a microscopic amount of them actually shop at dicks. An individual CAN potentially have influence, but only if they have support. Those throwing a hissy fit over dicks dropping ARs do not have meaningful support, as evidenced by the fact that Dicks is still in business after pulling ARs five damn years ago. Therefore, Dicks is perfectly content to “underestimate the individual consumer”, because their bottom line will still be supported by the masses no matter how many threads like this get started on obscure message boards. That’s as simple as I can make it, and I honestly don’t care enough about changing your mind to continue arguing, but here’s a link that sums up all the reasons why Dick’s actually just made a solid business decision for all the reasons that have been beat to death in this thread.

You're assuming the affected consumer only buys that particular product, which isn't true. They may have bought firearms (AR's, ammo), but also baseball gloves, bats, uniforms, weights, etc. You alienate those consumers and you risk affecting your margins on sales of other products over principle.

That article was written shortly after their announcement and they used their current stock price as proof. Well, it's down now and their quarterly projections were off, but of course they will say it's uncertain as to whether it's because of their political stance.

I'm done with this conversation. Have a good night.

I'm waiting for the boycott to start on In N Out Burger. On the inside bottom lip of their beverage cups, they have printed scripture book, chapter and verse. It seems obvious to me that this is a clear violation of the Seperation of Church and Shake.

Been reading this thread and amazed no one gets this. "Uneducated gun nuts only buy guns. They aren't sophisticated enough to purchase apparel or sports equipment. Derp!" You know all that hunting clothing on the racks in Dicks? I got news for you, those 'gun nuts' that are being mocked here with that tired moral superiority the left has patented, spend lots of money on those items. I don't own an AR - most likely never will - but Dick's has lost my business.
