WTF? Driving to New Orleans and there are several deer stands and feeders literally 50 yards or less on the south side of the eastbound lanes right before the Laplace exit. At least 2 of them had feeders set up about 30-40 yards away parallel to Interstate.

Besides being dangerous, is this legal? What fricking deer is going to a feeder during legal hunting hours less than 50 yards from an Interstate highway. Bunch of morons.

My guess would be deer that live next to I-10 are not phased by I-10. Those stands have been there a while, so I guess they produce.

every monster buck killed on public land in Louisiana was killed in the Conservation Corridor right next to I-10. Common knowledge.

I've seen deer in broad daylight 15 feet from road just feeding on i49 between Washington and Alexandria. Same with Hogs.

To be honest, There's probably more deer along that corridor than middle of the woods. They know they are safe, just like they know they are safe close to camp.

Deer don’t like change. They will get used to anything if exposed to it on a consistent basis, and will be wary of the most benign things just because it’s new. Those “morons” are shooting deer on those feeders enough to make it worth their while.

Hell no, just doesn’t look very safe or productive.

There is a ridge parallel to I10 where they mucked out the area during construction. Being the only high/dry ground it is a great place for deer to forage and stay dry during the cold. It’s a no brained really.

I've seen deer just off the shoulder of I-10 between Laplace and Gonzales plenty of times around dusk.

Most deer like corn. Some think it's worth dying for.

x 10 that for hogs.

What's unsafe about it? You think these guys are gonna mistake a car for a deer and shoot over their head at the overpass?

And the stands wouldn't be there if they weren't productive. They have been on those hills/pipelines a long time.

I personally would hate it because the traffic noise would drive me nuts but I don't think the car noise affects the deer at all.

First few deer I killed were right off I-55. They don't care and get used to just about any noise. Can actually use it to your advantage to cover your own noise.

They're not there to shoot deer. Hunters sit in those stands and watch I-10. When a deer is hit they take it home. A real urban style hunting.

Well since it appears with that statement you are truly clueless about deer behavior.
Those deer are completely comfortable right there as well as several other places that a person would think is stupid for a deer to be ( airports, plants suburbs)
The same deer that ignores a Peter built or crew boat horn will come out of its skin when a arrow hits the shelf of a bow, trust me...

I would think that some would be breaking the rules for discharge of a firearm next to a roadway. Can’t remember exactly but I thought it was 500 feet for shotgun and 1000 feet for a rifle

Looks like the LA statute reads within 100ft of the centerline of the highway.

For a rifle? Surprised it’s that close

ETA: looks like parishes and cities also have different ordinances that may be more restrictive than the state 100 ft rule
