I hunt on 2200 acres. Yes I know how big 400 acres is.

And yes I’ve seen it happen. I switch clubs because if it trashy dog hunters consistently letting their dogs out from the public road our property bordered towards their property which was on the other side of ours.

You can defend the practice all you want, but the truth is if dog hunters could keep their dogs on their own property we wouldn’t be having this debate. But they can’t. So here we are.

like threads like this. It’s a spirited debate.

It honestly breaks my heart. Many of my fondest memories of so many great men who are no longer with us were from dog hunts and the associated camping shenanigans.

Personally I’m not gonna be happy to exit this life until I shoot a nice buck with my bow… whilst sitting atop a trusty horse.

Now that’s something I can get behind. I have a couple of buddies that hunt pens and I tell them that when they find me a pen I can ride through shooting off of a horse that I’m in.
I can just picture a 250in buck at the feeder and I’m sittting 100yd off on top of a sure enough barrel horse and roll out slinging double out buck at a full dead run!!!

It's too late. I applaud the people who are going to great lengths and great expense to keep it going without pissing off their neighbors. The dog hunting camps are too spread out, the leases are too small. Camera corn pile and box stand are the way of the world now.

Not everywhere baw. Don’t give up. I’m a member of the Florida Dog Hunters Association. It’s $20 well spent. We need people advocating for us. Between PETA and other assholes someone needs to.

This is flat out poaching. This isn’t a dog hunting problem.

So you think they stand at the boundary and tell the dogs “go on that 400 acres and run a deer off it.” The the dog goes onto it, turns the deer to run it off the 400 acres, and they just shoot the deer? You have any idea how big 400 acres actually is? Have you ever tried to put dogs on a deer and make them run a deer in a certain direction? I’m confident 90% of the people bitching about dog hunters have zero clue what it’s like to hunt with dogs.

Are you actually going to try and say there aren't dog hunters who do what you describe???? They may not be standing on the property line but I've personally seen dogs released in the opposite side of an adjoining property in hopes they will push deer to his place.

You aren’t wrong, but everyone else just sees it at face value. “Damn Dog runners” is the only thing that comes out of their mouth

Hope and pray all you want but the dogs are gonna run behind the deer, and the deer is gonna go the way he thinks he can get away.

I’m gonna start bringing a dog hunting and dropping it off on the side of the road to have it run big bucks to me. Must be all you have to do.

Like I said earlier.

If dog hunters could keep their dogs on their property, nobody would have an issue with it. But they can’t and that’s why they have the reputation they do.

I have zero clue what it's like to poach on another man's private property too. Does that mean I'm not qualified to speak out against it?

Again, I see nothing wrong with dog hunting in and of itself, but as it's currently practiced it's largely earned its reputation. "Muh dog can't read" is a stereotype for a reason.

So you’re saying if my dogs run a deer through another man’s property that it’s poaching? The deer came from my property.

I bet you never heard a pack of hounds on a deer.

No, I didn’t say that at all. It was an example disproving the point he was trying to make. If your dogs run through another man’s property and you think it’s fine you’re a dickhead contributing to the death of dog hunting, but it’s not poaching.

Actually, I have, although I wasn’t part of that hunt. I was fishing and it was the closest I ever came to getting shot stateside. Being hopped up on adrenaline makes people take shots they shouldn’t. Despite that experience I don’t want it banned or anything, I’m just explaining why a lot of people have a problem with it.
