Deer can do some pretty crazy things

My wife shot this deer this past weekend with my .300 win mag at about 280 yards. As you can tell she put a bad shot on it but did a heck of a lot of damage, the front shoulder was completely shattered and as you can tell she blew out a huge chunk of the brisket. Even with it being a bad shot and the amount of blood that was draining out of the deer it still managed to run 250+ yards before laying down and dying. Congrats to my wife and the long shot with a .300 not to shabby . Sweet momma bringing home the meat

That is a fact, i was pretty impressed that she hit it in the first place, we have a powerline and a pipeline on our property and you can shoot for miles, when the deer came out I told her it was a pretty good shot for someone who was brought up hunting dog drives in the morning and still hunting with an average shot of 60 yards in the evening. She pulled the trigger and i saw that leg give out and i was shocked lol... All i could say is " DAMMNNNNN GO HEAD GIRL"

Won't do that at 280 yds with a .270

I actually bought her a .270 for Christmas but we just brought my gun to the stand that day. All in all it doesnt matter between that and the other two deer we have shot we got plenty enough sausage for the year. Now it is time to sit in the tree with the bow till February 15th and kill a couple more
I also have a .270 of my own and i would much rather my .300, not knocking the .270 cause i was brought up shooting that and killed many a deer with it.

Some ole baw with a 270 fricked your old lady. Has to be. You are on a campaign of 270 hate.

It's mostly trolling, but I don't like the caliber. I have seen too many deer lost from a .270.
It's just like bow hunting, any broad head will kill a deer if the arrow splits the heart or double lung. But it's when the shot isn't perfect is where broadhead performance comes into play.
You put a less than perfect shot on a deer at 300 yds with a .270, it's lost.

Why didn't she shoot it in the head? Waste of meat

280 yard shot
If you dont believe me bring a range finder and i will bring you to the stand and show you where the deer was shot and you can peg the stand. Dont roll your eyes because you cant make the shot and she did lol. Hunting powerlines and pipe lines we make 200-300+ yard shots often. 280 yards for a person that hunts often and has places to shoot that distance is not a hard shot at all

Yea i was pretty upset about her destroying a whole front shoulder but it was the first deer she has shot at in a few years with a gun she never shot before, i wasnt going to let her aim for the head lol

I've never lost a deer that I've shot with a .270. I love mine.

Same, love mine. My dad handed it down after 20 years with it, he killed probably 60 deer with it and I've killed about 10.

I shot one with a 30-06 running straight at me at 7 yards, he bit the dust for a few minutes then got up and ran off.
Blood everywhere but no trail, never found him.

Energy from 270 at 300 yds 130gr bullet is about 1660. From a 300 with 180gr bullet 1980. That 300 foot pound difference is not giving you much wiggle room. Both give you plenty room for error.
It's pretty laughable you think a whitetail must be shot with something larger than a 270. He'll the standard for ethical kills on elk is 1500 foot pounds.

I've never lost one with a 270 either.

Looks like poor bullet performance and shot placement issue.
