I’m getting conflicting answers Googling it. My question: Is it possible the Senate passes it and if it is signed into law before November 2026, will it immediately go into effect, or will we have to still “Fall Back” this year and wait until we “Spring Forward’ in 2027 before it’s permanent? I’m ready to sleep in later and deer hunt later.

While I would be elated, I don't think there is a snow ball's chance in hell it passes.

Sun don't care what time it is. I go to bed 7 hours before I get up for hunts, doesn't matter how they mess with clocks.

The deer will still be moving around at the same time as before. Just because the US changes the time, doesn’t mean the deer change their schedule.

It passed the house by a landslide. Why do you think there is zero chance it passes the senate?

Pawpaw used to not change his clock. Far as he was concerned mass changed times twice a year and that was all there was to know about it.

Its fine like it is right now, or leave it standard all year.

Right, we actually tried staying on daylight saving time year-round once about 50 years ago and people thought they would like it, but ended up hating it. I would like to try it again to see if we like it better this time.

Thank you for that wise insight.

This post ain’t about the deer moving, though. It’s about me not moving so early.

I read that it will start in the fall of 2027 in the version that passed the House.

No s on Saving. Daylight Saving (not Savings) Time.

AI Gemini says this re effective date:

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the Sunshine Protection Act on July 14, 2026, which aims to make Daylight Saving Time (DST) permanent year-round. If it passes the Senate and is signed into law, the legislation would generally take effect immediately upon signing or at the next scheduled seasonal time change.

Effective Date: Because the bill has typically not specified a hard-coded future date, experts note it would likely take effect immediately upon being signed into law by the President, or at the next official transition point (such as when clocks "spring forward" or "fall back") to allow for a smooth transition.

[So it would kick in when signed by the president, unless Congress adds an effective date provision to the legislation before it passes. Trump favors the change in law, so presumably he would sign it quickly if it passes.]

Some think it won't come up for a vote in the Senate. There is opposition. It stalled last year after Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark. objected that the change to permanent DST could lead to overlooked negative consequences. He pointed to parts of the country where the sun wouldn’t rise until 9 a.m. or later and cited potentially dangerous, dark morning commutes and workers who would need to work early mornings without sun.

Tom, let's give it a try and see how it works.

I really don't think people realize this. The system we have is basically perfect. The extra light after work becomes pretty much useless after October, if not before. I do not have the details handy, but some people are going to experience darkness well into the morning.

extra light after work isnt great for hunting but I will be happy to be able to play golf year round after work if this passes.

I don't see how that's going to happen after October.

The Senate has held up this bill for years. Right now, it doesn't look like the Senate will pass this bill. I think they are like 4 or 5 votes short.
