I was looking into guided ELK hunts for this.
Im starting training over the next 2 years to compete one.
I hear its a lot of hiking and walking.
But, I didnt realize, the guided elk hunts are in the 3-4k range.
And that is without tip or processing.
I didnt realize how expesive it is.

21 pts
$4-5k is on the low end depending on length of hunt, type of hunt, lodging, meals, and animals (if needed).

I think I’ve got 16 or 17, but point creep will prevent me from getting 61. I hunt 62 and have seen some good ones. I’m sitting out this year, but I’m jealous of you.

You’ll be close to $1,000 before you leave the house if you put in for the draw and get a tag.

My buddy did it 2 years ago with 18 on a rifle hunt. I probably could have gone with less than 21 on a bow hunt but thats where i was. Fortunately i had an older friend convince me to start a long time ago to start getting points so i have lots in multiple species over multiple states. Im finally at a financial state to start burning them.
Previously we hunted OTC in 62 almost yearly.

Bull elk NR plus small game NR plus application fees puts you over $1000 now if i remember right.

Correct. The tag itself is like $850.

Heading to Montana in November. Found a couple thousand acres of private in the Bitterroot’s surrounded by BLM. It’ll be my first time out west chasing big game. Got a bull elk and deer tag.

One day I was just checking out the lower units and noticed how nice Unit 76 around Creede was. I then checked on Go Hunt how many points and its in the 20's also. Not going to happen for this guy.

Buddies from Laffy dad built a cabin in creede back in the 80’s. They would drive straight up through in their Toyotas with camper shell. Invited many times but sleeping in the bed of a Toyota from Laffy to Creede was a mountain too far.
George sold that place after 20 yrs and they no longer big game hunt.

I was in Colorado last week on a short trip and the damn elk were walking around town in Estes Park like pets. They were everywhere.

As a first timer, I’m already close to $1k in just in gear. And I have more to go. Add in tags, transportation, a lease, lodging, etc…I assume it’ll be $10k+.
