Just thought I’d share my unfortunate experience. 4runner owners and any other vehicle with easy access underneath beware...

Went out to dinner in Bay St. Louis Mississippi the weekend before Easter around dusk.Parked on Beach Blvd right down from the Blind Tiger. Upon return as soon as I started the truck I knew they got me. They cut the passenger side Converter out. Comprehensive insurance covered the $1500 repair. Was in a rental for 2 weeks waiting on the new Catalytic Converter from Toyota. Insurance company and the Bay St. Louis police said this theft is very common and getting worse.

A church back home had to build a special building to house their 6 vans because they couldn’t keep converters on them. As soon as they got new ones they were gone.

Heroin addicts gonna steal anything they can to get a fix.

Yep it’s a really big deal right now. Some companies are making skid plates to deter theft. Doesn’t always work but could cause them to move on to the next car.

Happened to me years back. We just welded a steel pipe in its place. Didn’t have 1000 $ at the time.

we may be talking about diff things, but the Alex news had a similar story a few weeks back. A church based program that had 6 or 7 vans to drive old people that couldn't drive to doctors appointments kept getting hit by the vandals so they finally build an enclosure. makes me sick.

Our business had several of them stolen in one night in our yard. Cut through the fence and hit 3-4 of our service trucks all in one night. We wound up fabricating a re-bar enclosure around them.

How'd they get it off? Did they use a sawzall or hacksaw or disconnected fittings? Just wondering..
If they cut with a sawzall that had to make some noise for a minute anyway.

Or a small cutting rig would be best I guess.

In the past 2 weeks, 2 different Toyota Tundras got hit up in my wife's work parking lot.

Where do these people go sell these things? The person buying it has to know its stolen, right? they just don't care?

Just did a metal building for a funeral home in North Baton Rouge for the same reason.

Exactly. It’s just like scrap copper wire. The lengths people will go to, to get scrap wire irks the shite out of me. Ripping wire out of houses being built. They tore the coils out of our church air conditioner.
