Can I use regular high temperature grease instead of choke tube lube?

Not sure if there’s anything special about choke tube lube but is hate to get a choke permanently bound or something.

Don’t know if this helps or not, but I’ve never put anything on the chokes in my guns. And never had 1 get stuck.

The reason I ask is I just cleaned my shotguns and both chokes took a bit of work to come out. I hadn’t exactly used them terribly bad since the last cleaning so figured I may want to put something on there just to be cautious.

I’ve always used Permatex anti-seize, never had a problem, even in my Benelli shotguns

Yeah, it seems like an anti-seize would be a better choice

Why not gun oil?

I use whatever grease is handiest; i have used choke tube grease, canned spray on white lithium, bearing grease in the tub and from a grease gun, reel grease; there was no difference between any of them when I went to unscrew the choke the next time.

Any "heavy weight" grease (not fishing reel grease) will do just fine. So will any "heavy weight (30-50w) will also do. (IIRC most of my Berettas came with a small bottle of oil for the choke tube threads.)

Heavier grease is best -- lighter stuff will often have the opposite result from what you're trying to avoid.

When shooting clays the barrel (and choke tube) get hot -- and the choke tune loosens -- sometimes enough to send the tube downrange when that least thread releases. Don't ask me how I know this.

Anti-seize is 100% the way to go. Also be forewarned you can paint a battleship with a 8oz bottle of that stuff. So watch what you get it on. This is certainly one of those times that just a dab will do
