Agree.

pretty extremely unethical

Better for the animal if ethical means less suffering
Worse for the hunter if ethical means having to practice to make a good shot
I would never use them.

With all the advancements in bows, arrows, broadheads, camo, etc., poisoning a deer for a more ethical kill is just bullshite. If you miss you miss like thousands of other hunters.

If poison is used, then it's not bowhunting.

Either go caveman or use modern advantages.
You don't think caveman used ways to cover and protect themselves from the elements when hunting? Listen, you are really really far fetching when it comes to the use of poison. And all this modern technology you speak of is even more reason not to use it. I mean the art of hunting should remain an art, not fricking if you are able to penetrate anywhere, you can drop it.

but a majority of these bad shots means the deer would have survived. Those deer are tough and i think they'd choose to survive if possible over dieing a very nice quick death by poison gesture by the hunter even though he shot me in the cankle.

So setting the ethical sportsmanlike standard is buying a $1000 high tech bow with rangefinders and climbing in a tree with a modern climbing stand. But draw the line there. Like I said everyone has their line.
If you want the challenge hunt like the Indians did 400 years ago.

Right. Cavemen can use whatever they need because when it comes down to it, it's life or death from them. We have zone scent control for Gods sake and if you miss, you can go home and go but some meat from the store.
I know it's far fetched, but so is this thread.

kill shots are called kill shots for a reason. Nobody is talking cave man shite but the use of poison takes it to another level. I can see more validity in the old day arguments/uses for it... but its bullshite using those excuses in today's world with todays advantages.

You don't get it. It's okay.

Why'd the Cave Man go home?
His Thermacell ran out!

Wat about tribes in the amazon who use a stick and string? Thats about as caveman as you can get... But some use poision from a frog on the tips! Are they cheating too?

Let's just tie a grenade to an arrow.

I use a bow, not an abomination with wheels and pulleys, so I don't have that much problem with poison. Though, it probably isn't necessary. Put a good hair popping sharp traditional broadhead through the vitals and the deer will die just about as quick. Hit him in the gut, and the poison won't work anyway.
I've never even thought about using it before this thread, though. I'm not even sure it is legal where I hunt.
