I've hunted ground stalk and spot, pop up blinds, tree saddle, make shift ground blind, lock ins, climbing stands, tripods, and ladder stands.

What is your preferred? I find the lock on easier to conceal and set with the correct orientation for a R hand draw. But sometimes hard to hang due to angle of tree. Ladders more stable and comfortable to stand in for a shot. Tripods hard to conceal, pop ups comfortable but so far un productive, and climbers really cumbersome.

I have a desire to hunt from a climber as many have recommended but, man they are noisy and hard to shoot from despite being comfortable.

Loc-on and sticks placed in 2-3 locations and then my climber for bouncing a round and hitting the hot feed trees depending on the situation.
Over the last few years I have become more paranoid about the sound I make with a climber not only walking in but setting up and climbing.
I have hunted from a ground blind with a bow several times but have yet to kill, and with the results of the deer I saw will probably not use them again. Every deer I have seen within 50 yards of the double bull had me pegged and was on pins and needles.

I used a climber 2 years ago, hunted from the ground last year, and will be using a lock-on and sticks this year (Muddy Vantage Point and Hawk Helium sticks). I like the lock-on so far, because it's easier to get up just about any good size, straight tree. The tree I climb at the house has a horizontal limb about 12 ft up. I can get around that thing easily with sticks and a lock-on. Plus it's a light enough setup that it's not a hindrance if I want to just set up on the ground.

Done a lock-on and sticks and climber last year. Got a saddle for Father's Day. Been practicing in the yard with it all summer.

Can't wait to get to actually put it to use

I have used lock-ons, climbers, and ground blinds. As I have gotten older, I favor ground blinds more and more. I really enjoy seeing deer at ground level at 10 yards. I have killed several mature bucks out of ground blinds, but you have to brush them in really well. I want to try the new blinds from Primos, but they are really expensive.

In the Deep South, a climber is the way to go. During archery season, food sources are constantly changing and you need to be able to change with it.
If you’re hunting a bait pile, a lock on is a nice set up.

On private land I don't think climber vs lock on make a ton of difference. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. On public lands where you have to set up every hunt, I don't understand how you lock on guys do it. Setting up a lock on is an event.

Not in low or swampy areas with trees with very wide bottoms.

I use sticks and saddle primarily.

If you're hunting public land, at least in LA anyway, it doesn't matter because you have to take the stand down after each hunt.

It matters because setting up a lock on is a pain.

Not with a good lock-on, it isn't. The cheap ones, yes.

Sounds like someone doesn't know how to set up a lock-on...lol!

I can get one hung in 10 minutes, and I've only done it a handful of times. I don't have to worry about any large branches on trees getting in the way, as long as I can get my sticks attached with no issues. With a climber, you need a pretty straight, clean trunk with no branches in the way.

I'll take a lock-on any day for that reason. Gives me more options for trees I can hunt out of.

I'll report back after opening weekend. I'm going to try it from the ground with a natural brushed blind (no tent) and a leafy suit. Can't wait.
