i have mine set at 15, 20, 30 and 40.
I don't shoot past 30 on deer yet...still learning my new craft.
should I drop in a 25??

Unless your bow is really slow I cant see needing a 15 and 20. I use my top pin from 0-30, then 40,then hail mary. Im not comfortable past 40 so the hail mary pin never gets used
ETA: If you're new to this I'd go ahead and pick up a HHA one pin sight now and be done with it. You'll be miles ahead of the game

THIS
All the new bows out there are fast enough to not need that many pins. My bow is about 15 years old (Mathews Switchback) and I have 20-30-40 yard pins.
I practice mainly at 40 yards. If you can hit your target consistently at 40, anything closer in is gravy. Early on I would shoot shorter distances 10-20-30, but now that I "know" the characteristics of my bow and what to expect at shorter distances. I practice long range.

You need 4 pins. 20,30,40,50. I practice at 40 and 50 mostly, and as stated earlier that makes the 20&30 yard shots simple. I’ve killed 2 deer at 50 but everything has to be right for me too take that shot

I only have a 20 and 30, dropped the other two pins out the way.

20, 30, and 40 here.

Way to many pins. We have all done this starting out, I will say I wish I would have just gone to a single pin site from day one. Would have saved myself a lot of heartache.
0-20 - 1 pin
30yrd - 1 pin
40yrd - 1 pin
drop the rest out of your site picture.

I have a 0-30, 40, 50, 60, & 70.
I don't shoot at deer over 40, but like to practice the long shots to make the short shots easier.
Most new bows are fast enough that you don't need a 15 & 20 yard pin

I agree with what everyone says, get rid of that 15 yard pin and just go with 20-30-40-50
I suggest placing a horizontal line on the target and shooting it at 20, 21, 22, 23, etc. until you notice a significant drop in the arrow off the line. Then switch to your 30 yard pin. This will help you determine where your break over point is on what pin you will use at certain distances. For me, I use my 20 yard pin for 0-27 yards, then I start using my 30 yard pin

Less pins the better I think. Not sure what speed you're shooting, but typically on newer bows there's not a huge drop off from 0-30. I've been fortunate enough to have one pin cover from 0-40. Just have to know how your bow is shooting.

Went to only 2 pins. If not paying close attention you will find yourself picking the wrong pin if you get in a hurry.

If your bow is fast enough you can set a pin at 27 yards and shoot it all the way out to 35 yards just holding just below Center mass. The further away they are the more they are going to duck the arrow and they duck right into the shot.
I too would recommend the HHA single pin sight. I set mine at 27 yards and make slight adjustments from there if I can. If I can't then I know where to hold with just that one pin out to 40 yards. I also Practice almost exclusively from 60-70 yards and will shoot a group at 30 or 40 at times. I rarely practice inside 30 anymore but most of my kills are inside 30.

I don't worry about picking the wrong pin, but I do notice my field of view getting cluttered with too many pins. Like others have said on a modern bow the 20 and 30 yard pin aren't gonna be that far apart.
The only right answer is what's comfortable for you. For me that's a 20 and a 35, since it keeps the second pin well away from my most used pin and 35 yards is the absolute farthest I am comfortable shooting at a deer.

Mathews Z2 bow
I love the horizontal tape idea.
I need to get better at adjusting the pins / sight with my bow. I'll drop the 15 for sure.
Thanks for the input.

I have the trophy ridge site with smart pin technology or whatever it is. It's set 20,30,40,50 and 60. I practice in the 30-40 range, but I also practice elevated close shots at 15 too because that downward angle will have an effect on impact location.
