I still get comments about my starter boat. Go Devil with an outboard I've fitted for flats fishing. That boat is hot as frick to fish from in the summer. Can, at idle speed, move just as easily sideways as forward. Very little storage. Scratched the hell up. But, I never come home empty handed or unhappy. Catching fish is a bonus. My day on the water in whatever boat I'm fishing from is a blessing.

I've fished out of a 33 Freeman on occasion and, although I enjoy offshore fishing, my trips to the marsh in my boat are my best days. Even when I'm solo.

I have had a lot of different boats. Some beaters and some amazing rigs. Catching is all the same. The nicer rigs can offer some nice amenities but get on the water in whatever makes you happy and allows you catch a few.

I kinda disagee w the sentiment from OP. For inshore marsh applications it probably does hold more true. But when you start getting into 30-50 mile runs over open Water, like say leaving shell beach and heading out for snapper/aj, or even if youre just someone who regularly fishes the chandeleurs, you are going to want an extremely reliable vessel , likely over 24 feet, and that is going to cost. I would really hate to do that w two stroke evinrudes on a tri hull. What kills me is when its dead calm and there are guys in gorgeous 70k bayboats lined up fishing the rocks, and will go no further.

Did you miss the thread where posters here were talking like they would actually get this aluminum bayboat that costs like $200,000.

You don’t think people should buy high end vehicles or loaded trucks.

You think it’s crazy that someone would spend $300 on a fishing reel or $2000+ in a gun

It’s nice if you can afford it, but it doesn’t make you a better fisherman or hunter.

Most bass I ever caught was in high school using a 30 dollar reel from wal mart, 1 dollar spinner baits, and a 15 ft aluminum boat with a trolling motor and a 25 mercury that in order to run required taking the top off and holding the throttle down and jamming it in gear before it died.

Equipment didn’t matter. What mattered is then I had a lot of time to fish and learn and know the local lakes and what type weather the fish each one preferred

I have a shite ton of fun in my 17' Alweld Center Console.

I do have 5 footitis right now. I've been watching way to much FL Sportsman Project Dreamboat and now I want an old 22' Mako with an Armstrong bracket and Bennet Trim Tabs trucked out with the latest Electronics.

The same happens with tractor threads when someone starts a thread asking about a tractor. Then posters start responding with “get this 70 hp tractor” “get this 85 hp tractor”. Like getting a $50,000 tractor to bush hog a few times a year is no big deal and these same posters probably live on 1/3 acre and only own a push mower

I grew up fishing with my Dad and his friend in the 90s. My dad's friend would take us out of Hopedale way before the rock dam, in a very leaky riveted 12ft flat with POS 9.9 Force on it. The outboard had no cover, would have to constantly pump the ball to keep it running. The motor also had a plastic prop lol. The bottom of the aluminum boat was probably 60% fiberglass patching! He'd run the boat up on the concrete back down ramp intentionally when coming back in. No trailer, we'd take the trolling motor and outboard off and load the boat into the back of a pick up. The truck was a total POS as well. I remember a few times pulling up at the dock, people telling us they were skunked. Old man Wayne with all the shitty equipment would love to throw the ice chest full of fish up on the dock while he ragged the people with fancy boats.

Nice equipment is nice but it ain't everything.

I bought a used Shearwater for $33k last year.

It is more than just a fishing boat for me. I regularly take my friends and family out on it for a day on the lake or a good time at the Prop Stop.

Sure, I wouldn't mind fishing out of a 1999 Bay Stealth--but those leisure weekends sure are nice riding in style

I think the OP may have a case of selective memory. Thread is weird.

A 32' Tidewater cost $250,000. I would say most probably cant afford a boat that cost a quarter million.

I've fished in plenty of nice bass boats and can't catch shite

ETA: While I enjoy going fishing in friend's nice bass boats, I enjoy taking my flat bottom aluminum boat out just as much, if not more. Because it's mine. Not often do you see someone in their driveway hand washing their little aluminum boat, with a factory flat green paint job, with soap and water by hand. But I'm that guy. I was taught that, no matter what you are lucky enough to have, take pride in it.

Don't compare what you have to what the guy down the street has. Get what you can get, and take care of it, and you'll be happy 9 times out of 10.
