It always amuses me when I read about people's opinions of boats on the board. Everybody praises Yellowfin, Contender, Ranger, Blackjack, etc. How many of us can afford or care to afford these boats? Yes, they are very nice. I go fishing in a 19ft. Nautic Star. It is a good fishing boat. I have never had to fix anything on the hull itself. Tidewater, Frontier, Bulls Bay, etc. are all good fishing boats. These are the boats that the great majority of us fish from. There are also very nice aluminum bay boats out there as well. You do not need ultra-expensive. boats to go fishing

yeah a 19ft nautic star is a nice fishing boat and will get the job done in most inshore situations in Louisiana

But there are better options

I can't afford them tho

Let me guess, you’re anti yeti

You don’t think people should buy high end vehicles or loaded trucks.

You think it’s crazy that someone would spend $300 on a fishing reel or $2000+ in a gun

Buy the best you can afford or are willing to pay. If that is a yellowfin, cool. If that is a blazer bay, cool. It is your boat.

Ignore the static.

It becomes the pissing match between what’s nicer.....a Vette or a Ferrari

I’m comfortable in my own skin “only” spending $50k+ for a boat. Could I buy a Blackjack? Sure. Could I buy a Shearwater? Yep. But, I choose to be frugal on this particular item.

It’s all good.

I can afford any of the top brands.......it’s not reasonable though. Well, not for me.

Of course you don't. Sometimes people just like nice things and if they have the money to spend then why does it matter?

I pretty much fit this bill. Of those listed I'd probably buy the $2000 gun above anything.

My point is that whenever anyone asks an opinion of a bay boat that might cost between $35,000 and $45,000, the great majority of people on here jump on their case. I doubt that most people on here can afford most of the boats they tout. And yes, I do like nice things and can afford them.

You don’t need 4 and 5 star recruits to field a football team but that doesn’t stop you from talking about them.

A lot of people simply don't mind putting themselves deep in debt. Some people can afford the expensive stuff. Who's who?

One of the best fishing trips I’ve been on in recent years was out of shell beach in a buddies 1980 something Mckee Craft with an old Evinrude 88 on the back.

We had people in Blackjacks and Rangers flying by us and laughing as we cruised along. Well, when we got back to the dock we found out those same people were skunked for the day and we had a box full of trout, flounder, and reds. Only ones that caught that day.

Point is, the boat is the most overrated part about fishing.

Is this what this thread is really about? You have mentioned it twice now.

It blows my mind that $50k could be considered frugal for a bay boat nowadays. A boat to catch trout and redfish....

It’s fricking ridiculous

I have 3 big teen boys and my wife, so I have to find something more sizable and dependable.

Cheapest used was $38k and no warranty or servicing.....

Boat reality is buy whatever you want to get on the water and enjoy it. Don’t covet what the next guy has. And I don’t care if you have a $100k yellowfin, if you can’t fish, the boat won’t make you a good fisherman. Too many badass fisherman regularly slay in kayaks and Jon boats to get caught up in all that. To each his own
