Block Ice Mold Ideas

I'm looking for a way to create block ice. I realise that the fundamentals are easy. What I'm looking for is a mold that is easy to pop the ice out of without a big struggle.
I've seen people use buckets from a kids beach set. Anyone have any good ideas for me? I'm looking for something in the half gallon to one gallon size. Thanks!

Why not milk jugs and throw them away when done.. Let them freze then poke holes in them if you want the melted water to get out.

I got ya covered. I made snowballs from the blocks.
Buy the plastic bread box covers Looks like a long cylinder. Stand upright in the freezer. Will take a length of time to freeze. Take out and let thaw and it will slide out. I don't recall running hot water over it immediately, as it may crack. So warm water at best.
DO NOT put a bunch of cylinders in the freezer. As it will melt other stuff. I called it a heat transfer.

That's a good idea. The only thing negative I could see with that is that round ice would bang around in the chest. I was thinking something rectangular. Like maybe shoebox size.

I might end up with a garage full of coolers!

What about those pound cake style rubber baking trays? You could freeze them and then they would fall out of the rubber mold? I think I have one at the camp you can look at.

I just made some today for an upcoming camping trip, I used quart sized Ziploc bags. Hopefully when they do melt it will stay in the bag and not get everywhere. Interested to see some of these guys ideas.

I picked up some huge ice trays from the Sportsman show a couple of years ago. 4 cubes is something like 1.5 gallons

This is for the pre-cooling, isn't it?

Big Ice is the maker of 4" cube ice tray.
I prefer 3 liter bottles with added traditional ice.

Be careful. A big chunk of rectangular ice bouncing around in an ice chest can break the insides of the ice chest.
And if you make big chunks there is a good chance they will not melt quick enough to keep fish cooled quickly.
Best size for me that I have found for overnight trips is sizes a twice the size of your fist.
