I can work around the bears tearing up feeders, blinds, etc... It's the number of fawns they kill that is the most disturbing to me. If you're in highly populated bear country like Tensas or other NE parishes, it certainly can affect your deer herd.

We have had bears push over an 800 pound feeder that had legs 10 ft apart.
We have had them destroy the motors on feeders 10-11 ft in the air.
We have two on camera this year that standing on their back legs are almost 8 ft tall.
Missouri only gives tags to about the 200 people and only residents. We have 2-3 LARGE black bears that need to go.
I’m honestly not sure I want to go in or come out in the dark!
These bear are HUGE!

It is not a good idea to outlaw a bear here, LOL. There is not much you can do to deter them. Sometimes they quit hitting the corn if something they like to eat better comes along.
A few notes on our bears. Please don't crucify me for not being 100% on every small detail as it has been a while since I read up on this.
1. They are very good and seeking out and killing very young fawns. See Tensas Study LINK
2. Our unique subspecies was polluted with bears from Minnesota and they are not so special anymore. The ones in the lower basin show some genetic variation, but not the ones north of there.
3. The true special subspecies is actually an isolated population found in Arkansas. It was only discovered due to all the fighting about the genetics of the Louisiana Black Bear.
4. If it were not for the listing of the "Louisiana Black Bear" as threatened, there would be pretty much no forest at all left along the Mississippi river. It would all be soybean fields. At least that was the fear at the time they listed the bear. In other words the bears were the excuse used to stop land development and let croplands return to their natural state thus benefiting all all species of wildlife. There is around 26% more forest today along the river than when they were listed.
So, love them or hate them. They are the reason we still have some forests along the river. They are here to stay and we will have a season in the near future.

There is also a decent population in the forests along both sides of the Vermilion River below the Abbeville area.

Good info. Most people have no clue about the bear population density in the Tensas NWR area. We have more bears than many areas that actually have a bear season.

The number 1 predator responsible for fawn predation deaths….. and we are in need of a season. The studies are there. Our legislature needs to grow some balls and legalize it.
But to answer original question, as stated before, SSS.

Agreed. people need to start looking at them as predators because that's what they are. We shoot coyotes, bobcats, etc.. But give the bear a pass, which kills more fawns than the others combined.

Yea i know its not sitting in a heated taj mahal with LSU or the saint's game on sipping a PSL, but it's an honest hunting experience.
ETA: After racking my brain for every drink that could be those set of letters, I gave up, looked up the thread and see that it is a pumpkin spice latte. My foamer went out at the camp and ruined the whole year for us. Replacement is ordered.

I know right. That's how long you been ducking the question.
Just like you fricking disappeared in that thread discussing a possible bait hunt. It was magical how you disappeared and continued to duck those questions once you got called out.

I've mentioned it more than once and you've never responded. I wonder why?
Probably because I have not noticed any of these posts in your 7 year quest for a message board 'gotcha'
Somehow someway you notice a lot but not those questions you dipped out on.
You can make all the excuses you want about not seeing MULTIPLE questions but it's bullshite and you know it.

not sure what you're getting at here
You're a hypocrite. Plain and simple.
