Humans have always been a part of nature and controlled predator and prey populations. Why, because we needed something to eat.
Louisiana is one of the only states in the south that has 5 ungulate predators: hogs, bobcat, black bear, cougar, coyote. We have an extremely low fawn survival rate in most of the state due to this and especially in areas with bears. Yet our deer seasons don't reflect this intense pressure and remain too liberal. Our biologists refuse to admit these as indicators of a declining deer population here while at the same time acknowledging that every other place with the same circumstances suffered a declining ungulate population and as a result amended their deer seasons to offset the predation.
We are coming up to a crossroads and it is time to pick. We can either have an abundance of bears along with short deer seasons and reduced limits or we can an abundance of deer with a liberal season and low bear populations. You can't have both. More needs to be done about the hogs and coyotes as well. Anyone that thinks our deer herd hasn't suffered isn't paying attention, bears present or not. On private land the decline isn't as noticeable as on public land. This is all well documented. Do your own research. I will be putting in for tags if this thing gets passed. It is time.

Well said.. If people realized how many fawns were lost to bear each year (along with the other predators you mentioned) it would freak them out. Tensas parish is insanely overpopulated with bear. I can't speak for other areas.

Well said. Humans are now the top predator, so some of the others are going to get squeezed out. That's just the way it is.
On a side note, if they do open regionalized seasons, how will they be hunted? Like they do in Canada over bait stations with fish and honey buns or will there be a dog season?

This isn't an answer to your question but I wanted to interject, and I hate to say this but it's true.. People in heavily bear populated areas might "wound a few" before filling their tag..
Disclaimer: I would never considerer doing this. Just an observation. People in these areas are sick of it.

If they actually want people to kill one then they would have to allow baiting or dogs. The effort would pretty much be futile if it weren't allowed as spot and stalk really isn't an option here.
I know in Alaska each resident gets two bait stations and they have to register their locations with the state. I think there is a bear baiting class as well you have take before you can have a station. I have relatives up there and they get their bears every year. I really like the breakfast sausage and burger meat they make out of them. Hopefully, I will have the time to get up there and make a hunt one of these days.

Bears eat really good. Taste like pork but sweeter depending on what they’ve been eating. Also bear rugs are freakin nice

I suspect feral hogs take out a lot of fawns.The only feasible way to control them is by trapping,not possible if bears around.
A friend’s lease is over run with hogs and they also have a bear.They never caught a hog in their corral trap but had plenty of pictures of bear in it eating the bait.

They monitor whats in it live via cell cam. Trapper can be at the coffee shop with the old folks, phone beep beep. He looks, sees 8 hogs. He punches in a code, gate slams shut. He calls his hand, done, back to coffee .

I live in a very high bear density area with a very long season. Since the population boom the deer and turkey numbers have plummeted. We can use dogs and there's a few large bear groups but the problem is for every 40 they tree they might shoot 1. They have a lot of pull in the state legislature and do everything they can to keep the bag limit to 1 and to keep it from coinciding with deer rifle season even though they account for very few kills. They just like the chase.
Bears are a part of the pig family but you don't see anyone screaming to save the pigs. I see on average 25-30 a year while deer hunting. I'd hate to even guess how many I get on cam. People will start taking matters into their own hands if they haven't started already.
