Ive had a couple of close encounters. Once the bears figured I was human, they walked/ran off. Was still glad I had a rifle as I was deer hunting both times.

I have not seen anybody state why they are adament to have a bear season.

About the only legit gripe i could label valid, is farmer crop damage. Lets hear reasons.

Reason #2-

It's Louisiana, the species is not endangered, so why the hell not?

Florida did this a few years ago. I paid about 350 for a tag. The first morning there were twice as many killed as they wanted. They shut the season down and I ate my 350. We now have bears dragging garbage out of my dumpster and being general pests.

I think I would have hit Florida with the bill. Frick that.

Don't issue so many damn tags if you don't want to exceed a certain number by DOUBLE!! That's piss poor tag allocation by the state that allowed that to happen.

True, the University of Ga study in La did show bear predator issues on fawns. But that is nature. And it IS reason for future bear numbers control.

But its not just about what Joe Jackleg wants, like Jim who calls me douche. Education left him behind.

But, because black bear occured here naturally, the dept of WL seeks to restore a manageable population. And the bear always ate a few fawns. You simply cut back on deer hunt days or tags, because the bear is taking some now.

The goal is a healthy population of both. Providing recreation for Joe Blow, is not a factor. We are just an effective TOOL to control population.

Is A reason, the biggest reason is the viable bear habitat in La is well past carrying capacity and has been for 15-20 years

I’ve encountered a few (including a rather large collared male), all have scurried away….. from a 27lb growling Boykin

300 LB raccoons

But with every human interaction they lose a little fear.

Fantastic. This can be accomplished with small bag limits. They are everywhere in Madison Parish.

Don't see that happening soon....LIBS will win that battle, and our Republicans here in LA are useless.

The proper term would be “to whom”

But since you ask…they are a nuisance to the people that they destroy their feeders, stands, etc.

Not saying I would do it, but maybe the best thing to do is to shoot one in the leg if you see it and let it run off. We had 1 on camera last year for the first time ever and he ripped the bottoms off two feeders.
