We talking thick woods or open fields?

Whatever you use for deer will work for hogs, but if you're buying a dedicated rifle for hogs, I would go 5.56 in an AR platform. If you plan to hunt large numbers in an open field where running pigs make head shots difficult, I would opt for more penetration. I've killed a pile with my .243, but I don't think you can go wrong with a .308 in an AR platform.

Several buddies who shoot night in fields like that use 7.62.39 or 300 blackout Night hunting open fields results in lots of shots and will end up costing a ton of you are buying 30$ a box ammo.
308. Will recoil considerably more than the others and not let you get as many follow up shots.

Shooting hogs is the only time its universally acceptable to shoot something ridiculous, and overkill is fun.

I think OP needs a .416 rem mag. Ammo is pretty widely available for safari calibers throughout the whole ammo crisis.

A purpose bought hog gun should be ridiculous. If it isn't going to be a clown gun, just use the deer rifle.

I'm doing a hog build now.

Christensen MPP in 300blk. 7.5 inch bolt action

Zeiss 1-6 or Vortex 1-10. I have both so I'll play with which one I like.

CGS Helios QD Ti when it gets released and for now a Hyperion. Stupid quiet and light.

I’ve been hog hunting only once in my life and my AR10 with old school iron sights worked just fine. I don’t have a lot of experience but I love my 308.
